Legally Blonde star Jennifer Coolidge admits she hasn’t seen the script for the third film. Released in 2001, Legally Blonde became a cult classic and helped to solidify Reese Witherspoon as a pop culture icon. Directed by Robert Luketic, Legally Blonde follows Elle Woods (Witherspoon), a perky sorority girl who enrolls in Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back her boyfriend. Learning life lessons and overcoming stereotypes along the way, Elle makes unexpected friends with Paulette (Coolidge) and falls in love with Emmett Richmond (Luke Wilson).

Dominating the box office upon its initial release, Legally Blonde spawned a sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde. Following Elle on her newfound career in Washington, the sequel appeared to be the final installment of Elle’s journey. However, in 2018, Witherspoon announced she would don her character’s pink wardrobe again in Legally Blonde 3. Penned by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, Legally Blonde 3 has been stuck in the production pipeline, but Coolidge is expected to reprise her role as fan-favorite Paulette.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Speaking with Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover on Access Daily, Coolidge admits she hasn’t seen the script for Legally Blonde 3. Sharing her favorite moments from the Legally Blonde set, which include a lot of free donuts and practicing the iconic Bend and Snap, Coolidge was asked to reveal details about Legally Blonde 3 but said she doesn’t know much. Coolidge said:

“This is very unfair because I haven’t seen the new script. I know other people have, but I haven’t seen it. So, I want to fill you in, but I don’t know anything yet. They haven’t told me anything about it yet.”

Of course, two decades after portraying Paulette in Legally Blonde, Coolidge continued to be attached to successful projects. These include Promising Young Woman, White Lotus, and Swan Song. In Legally Blonde, Paulette Bonafonte became a staple character and while it remains to be seen how Kaling and Goor will fit Paulette into Elle’s current lifestyle, it would be interesting to see the two characters together again.

For now, it appears Kaling and Goor are holding the Legally Blonde 3 script under lock and key. Slated for a May 2022 release date, Legally Blonde 3 continues to keep fans guessing on the plot details. Indeed, speculation about which characters from the franchise will officially reprise their role, including Wilson as Elle’s husband, Emmett, continues. While the fate of Paulette and Elle’s friendship has yet to be revealed, Legally Blonde 3 has a lot to cover in the life of Elle Woods two decades later.
