The Hisui region of Pokémon Legends: Arceus is full of mysterious characters that deepen the franchise’s lore (and sometimes contradict it), and this includes Professor Laventon. This Pokémon professor is the first human that players meet in the game, and from the get-go, Laventon starts sharing new information on Pokémon and how Poké Balls work. While a lot about the newest Pokémon professor remains a mystery, at least one Pokédex entry hints where Laventon is really from.

In Legends: Arceus, players are tasked with completing the first-ever Pokédex by catching Pokémon and completing Research Tasks on them. It’s a refreshing change from past Pokémon games, but it means that players can’t read Pokédex entries on a certain Pokémon until they’ve reached Research Level 10. These entries are written by Laventon and sometimes offer unique perspectives from his point of view.

Ever since Laventon was shown off in early previews for Legends: Arceus, fans have speculated that he might not really be from the Hisui region. Many people have speculated that Laventon is from Sword and Shield‘s Galar region due to his design (and his hat, which looks a lot like the one worn by Sword and Shield‘s male protagonist). However, this may not actually be true – thanks to information shared in Raichu’s Pokédex entry in Legends: Arceus.

Arceus’ Professor Laventon May Not Be From Galar But A New Region

After reaching Research Level 10 for Raichu in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Laventon will write the entry: “It can discharge bursts of electricity exceeding 100, 000 volts – a single strike with that amount of power would incapacitate one of the Copperajah of my homeland.” On the surface, this may seem like confirmation that Laventon is from Galar, since Copperajah was a new Pokémon introduced in Gen 8, but that may not be the full story.

In Pokémon Sword, Copperajah’s Pokédex entry reads, “They came over from another region long ago and worked together with humans. Their green skin is resistant to water.” This confirms Copperajah aren’t originally from Galar and given that Legends: Arceus takes place in the ancient past, this could mean Laventon is from an entirely new region players could see in Gen 9. The timelines could certainly match up if this is true.

However, it’s worth noting that Legends: Arceus (and Pokémon games in general) sometimes have contradictory lore tidbits or retcon certain pieces of information later on. It’s entirely possible Raichu’s Pokédex entry is meant to confirm Laventon is from Galar rather than hinting at any future region. Still, it’s pretty exciting to think that this could be a clever Easter egg hidden behind a Pokédex entry in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
