Warning: SPOILERS for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season 5 finale, “Swan Thong”.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will have a new and different team when season 6 begins in 2021. The Arrowverse’s weirdest (and best) series about time-traveling misfit superheroes ended season 5 with some big changes – including the team’s Co-Captain, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), getting kidnapped by aliens. The Legends didn’t even realize Sara got snatched when the season 5 finale ended, but when they do, it’ll be a somewhat different lineup launching the Waverider into outer space to rescue White Canary.

The Legends of Tomorrow lineup is in a constant state of flux, by design. At the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 5, the only two heroes remaining who were part of the season 1 roster are Sara Lance AKA White Canary and Mick Rory AKA Heatwave (Dominic Purcell). In fact, they’ve both risen up the ranks of the Legends; Sara was originally a dangerous ex-League of Assassins member seeking redemption and she got promoted to team Captain in season 2. Mick Rory was the ex-con partner of Leonard Snart AKA Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), but he’s now the integral backbone of the group and his grand larceny even funds the Legends. In Legends of Tomorrow season 5, the team said a tearful goodbye to newlyweds Ray Palmer AKA The Atom (Brandon Routh) and Nora Darhk (Courtney Ford), which was especially poignant since Ray was a founding Legend. But the Waverider has a revolving door policy for both superheroes and, occasionally, their villains.

Legends of Tomorrow‘s season 5 finale, “Swan Thong”, ended with Sara Lance’s alien abduction, forcing the team’s roster to unexpectedly change once more. During season 5, Sara’s girlfriend Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan), who was the former Director of the Time Bureau, became the Legends’ Co-Captain and headed up missions after Sara was blinded by her encounter with Atropos (Joanna Vanderham), one of the Fates of Greek myths, and had to cope with her new superpower of clairvoyance. With Sara now missing, the onus falls on Ava as the sole Captain of the Waverider, and no doubt, she’ll mobilize the team to bring Sara home in Legends of Tomorrow season 6. Backing up Ava will be a formidable roster of Legends coming out of the season 5 finale: John Constantine (Matt Ryan), Nate Heywood AKA Steel (Nick Zano), Mick Rory, and the brother-sister duo of Behrad (Shayan Sobhian) and Zari Tarazi (Tala Ashe).

This group is the current crop calling the Waverider home, but they also have reliable backup: Gary Green (Adam Tsekhman) is Constantine’s apprentice and is kind of a Legend, Astra Logue (Olivia Swann) is now the caretaker of Constantine’s haunted mansion in Northumberland County, UK, and Mona Wu (Ramona Young), who is also a Hawaiian werewolf called a Kuape, is a former Legend who pops in now and then. Legends of Tomorrow season 5 also introduced Lita (Mina Sundwall), Mick Rory’s estranged daughter who forged a new relationship with her dad. It remains to be seen if Lita will join the Legends and become a duo with Heatwave. Of course, the Legends can always count on the Waverider’s cheerful A.I., Gideon (Amy Pemberton).

But according to TVLine‘s plot synopsis for Legends of Tomorrow season 6, a new female hero will join the Legends. This mystery addition is described as “a woman who was abducted by aliens as a child and supposedly imbued with powers… either that or she’s just crazy.” Whoever this new member of the Legends of Tomorrow in season 6 will be, it sounds like she’ll fit right in aboard the Waverider.

Meanwhile, Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers), who is also a shapeshifter and the Greek god Clotho, decided to leave the Legends at the end of season 5. This makes the second hero Richardson-Sellers played who left the team after two seasons; the actress previously played Amaya Jiwe AKA Vixen in Legends of Tomorrow season 2 and 3. Charlie was a magical ex-Fugitive who joined the Legends at the start of season 4 but despite her exit from the team full-time, Charlie may still appear in Legends of Tomorrowseason 6. As Sara reminded her, “Once a Legend, always a Legend”.
