Season 3 of FX’s mind-bending sci-fi series Legion has added Lauren Tsai as a young mutant named Switch. Based on the X-Men character of the same name created by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, Legion debuted on FX in 2017, and quickly garnered acclaim for its striking visuals, unique style and provocative non-linear storytelling.

Season 1 of Legion delved into the tortured mind of the show’s lead character David Haller (Dan Stevens), a man who believes he suffers from schizophrenia until discovering that his mind has actually been taken over by a parasitic entity called the Shadow King. In season 2, the show revealed that its supposed hero David is in fact the real villain of the story, a revelation that led to a certain amount of fan revolt as the season played out. After being picked up by FX for a third season, Legion is expected to play out David’s plans for world domination, as the character’s former friends now become the ones who must stop him from wreaking havoc.

As reported by Variety, season 3 of Legion has added a new cast member in Lauren Tsai. The actress will reportedly play a young mutant named Switch who is a key part of David’s plan. No other specific details have been released about the character, and indeed few specifics have been offered up about season 3 of Legion in general. The show is slated to return in 2019.

A newcomer to television, Lauren Tsai’s only other credit is Terrace House: Aloha State, a Netflix reality show that follows six young people living together in a house in Hawaii. Obviously, Legion marks Tsai’s debut as an actress outside the realm of reality TV. Tsai joins a season 3 cast that also includes Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Bill Irwin, Aubrey Plaza, Jemaine Clement, Hamish Linklater, and Navid Negahban, as well as Dan Stevens.

How exactly Tsai’s character fits into David’s plans remains to be seen. Series creator and showrunner Noah Hawley no doubt has some wild developments in mind for season 3 of Legion, after the ride he took his audience on in season 2. Of course, for some that ride was a little too much of a roller coaster, as it gradually became apparent that David is in fact not the hero of the story at all but represents a massive threat to humanity. David’s truly evil nature became only too apparent in a controversial episode in which he sexually assaulted his girlfriend Syd (Keller), in a moment that caused many to reassess their loyalty to the series. Despite season 2’s story issues, Legion remained a visually stunning show packed with wildly surreal moments and engaging performances.
