A new Galactic Edition of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been announced at the September 9 Disney & Marvel Games Showcase. The showcase took place in tandem with Disney’s D23 Expo and featured trailers and updates for Disney titles such as Disney Dreamlight Valley and Disney Illusion Island as well as the first look at a new Marvel title from Skydance New Media featuring Captain America and Black Panther set in World War 2.

Although the showcase didn’t feature much in the way of Star Wars – despite the epic sci-fi franchise being a Disney-owned property – it did mention the latest entry in the popular LEGO Star Wars series. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga released in April this year to high praise, as TT Games incorporated all nine movies in the Skywalker Saga into one title for the first time. The title was perhaps the largest movie-based LEGO game to date, and many fans enjoyed the game’s retelling of the Star Wars movies’ events with the usual humor, cheek, and easter eggs that the LEGO Star Wars titles have become known for.

A rerelease called LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Galactic Edition was revealed at the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase with the inclusion of new characters and packs from Star Wars titles that have been released since the initial games’ launch. These six new packs will mainly cover Disney+ projects such as LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Rebels, The Clone Wars, and the upcoming Andor, and will add more than thirty playable characters to the title. Those that purchase the Galactic Edition digitally can also unlock an exclusive Classic Obi-Wan Kenobi playable character.

LEGO Star Wars’ Galactic Edition Will Also Include The Game’s Original DLC

The original Character Collection pass for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga already boasted an impressive number of playable Star Wars characters from outside the main Skywalker Saga movies to add to the core game’s impressive line-up, which consisted of 384 characters prior to any DLC. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Galactic Edition will include the seven packs included in the original Character Collection pass as well as the six new packs, giving players the chance to take control of nearly any Star Wars movie or TV character they can imagine.

Many would argue that it’s too soon for a rerelease of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, with the original game only releasing earlier this year and previous LEGO games just adding new content as DLC rather than taking the re-release approach. Despite this, the timing of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Galactic Edition‘s release is clearly to take advantage of the Holiday season, with the re-release coming November 1, 2022, and it provides an easy way for new players to build up a library of playable characters as quickly as possible.
