Some fans who ordered LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga ahead of its long-awaited release later this week are getting their copies early. Traveler’s Tales first announced a LEGO adaptation of all nine mainline Star Wars films back in 2019, but The Skywalker Saga would see multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and production issues brought on by employee crunch at the development studio. Still, the wait is almost over at long last, with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga finally set to arrive on April 5.

LEGO games based on the iconic Star Wars franchise have always been popular and successful among players young and old, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga looks to shake up the formula of Traveler’s Tales’ line of family-friendly collect-a-thon games in many ways. Gameplay trailers for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga have featured a revamped combat system for both lightsaber users and characters who prefer a good blaster at their side, and Traveler’s Tales is adding in a new character class system that fans are hoping will ensure that every member of The Skywalker Saga’s roster of roughly 300 characters will be useful in their own way. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will also include a special Mumble Mode feature that will allow players to turn off character dialogue and recreate the pantomimed storytelling of older LEGO video games like the first two LEGO Star Wars titles.

As it turns out, some fans are getting the chance to experience LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga before anyone else, as some physical copies of the game are arriving at players’ doorsteps ahead of Tuesday’s launch date. Reddit user Frisby123 is one of these lucky customers, revealing that their PS5 copy of The Skywalker Saga arrived in the mail from Amazon UK yesterday on r/playstation (via Game Rant). Frisby123 says that this isn’t even the first time a video game shipped earlier than expected, as their copy of Dying Light 2 also arrived before it launched last December.

Even before launch, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is already drawing considerable buzz for promising a vast amount of content inspired by the nine main Star Wars movies, and fans can look forward to more LEGO fun even after the game goes live this week. Traveler’s Tales has revealed that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will receive DLC based on spin-off movies like Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story and TV shows like The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian. These DLC expansions will naturally include playable characters like The Mandalorian‘s Din Djarin and the fan-favorite Jedi apprentice-turned-Rebel hero Ahsoka Tano, but unfortunately the adorable infant Grogu will remain non-playable for the time being.

So far, the pre-release response for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been mostly positive despite a few complaints regarding the game’s over-crowded HUD and lack of character customization. Regardless, The Skywalker Saga looks to be yet another solid family-friendly collect-a-thon featuring characters and worlds from all eras of the Star Wars mythology, and it looks like a few lucky fans will get to dive into the LEGO version of the Galaxy Far, Far, Away ahead of the game’s release in a few short days.
