Leslie Grace Celebrates Batgirl Movie Filming Wrap In New Set Video

Leslie Grace celebrates the Batgirl movie filming wrap, Grace is starring as the titular superhero in the upcoming DC movie. The film will tell a Barbara Gordon/Batgirl origin story that, according to Grace, will be “crazy dark.” Other stars in the film include Michael Keaton, who will reprise his legendary Batman role in both Batgirl and The Flash; ​​J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Barbara’s father; and Brendan Fraser as the villain Firefly. The script was written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, The Flash), and the movie was directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, known professionally as Adil & Bilall (Bad Boys for Life). 

Filming for Batgirl began on November 30, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Two months in, Grace revealed a first look at her Batgirl costume in an Instagram post of her standing on a rooftop on a windy night. Since January, the cast and crew have posted a number of teasing behind-the-scenes videos and pictures, showing off costumes for the movie, but revealing little of the plot and holding back its official HBO Max release date.

Now, Grace posts an Instagram video confirming that the cast and crew of Batgirl have wrapped filming. The video shows her joking with a driver, doing an elaborate handshake, and holding the firehose of a truck with “Leslie ‘Batgirl’ Grace” printed on its front between two images of the Bat Symbol. The post comes with a caption thanking the crew for making the film happen and promising to hold those moments dear in her heart. Check out Grace’s post below:

Grace looks incredibly cheery in the video, and the long handshake and presence of her name on the firetruck hint that she made friends while filming in Glasgow. Hopefully, this alludes to a successful time on set, and a film that both she and audiences will be proud of. At the very least, the reveal of the Batgirl filming wrap also grants hope that the HBO Max movie will be hitting the small screen sooner rather than later.

Batgirl is another of DC’s recent steps to expand its cinematic universe. They have already had crossovers and confirmed the existence of a DC multiverse, so it is likely that audiences will get to see Batgirl interacting with more of their favorite DC characters. With a dark new origin story for Barbara and the growing DCEU roster, there are many ways this character could develop on screen, and fans can only hope the recent scheduling shuffle doesn’t push the Batgirl release date out of 2022.
