LG’s ‘Vision Omnipod’ Concept Vehicle Is A Futuristic RV On Steroids

At CES 2022, South Korean tech behemoth LG announced an autonomous futuristic concept vehicle called ‘Vision Omnipod’ that the company described as a “mobility concept solution that blurs the distinction between home and car.” Concept vehicles are coming thick and fast in the new year, and one of the latest to have joined the list this week is the new Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept EV that has a range of 620 miles. Unlike the Mercedes, LG’s Vision Omnipod is not an EV, but it still has plenty of tech to keep folks interested.

LG has never shied away from innovations, although not every new idea has worked for the company. One of the most glaring examples of innovation gone wrong was the LG G5 smartphone from 2016, but the company is still working on new ideas, as revealed by a recent patent application. According to the patent filing, the company is working on a bizarre concept laptop with three screens, although it’s not immediately clear whether it will even make it to the market.

According to LG’s website, the Omnipod is designed to blur the line between the house and the car. The vehicle looks like a standard van on the outside, but on the inside, it comes with a plethora of tech, including a slew of LG’s own home appliances, including a refrigerator, TVs, and drink dispensers. All these devices would be upgradeable and are standardized for in-vehicle use. The well-appointed interiors look and feel somewhat like a lounge or a sitting area, with a reclining seat and a couch of sorts.

Adaptive, Reconfigurable Interiors

LG says that the Vision Omnipod will have an “adaptive interior” that can be reconfigured to enable access to the metaverse via a large floor-to-ceiling screen. Finally, there will be a virtual assistant called Reah that will be a personal concierge, a fitness instructor, and a companion, all rolled into one. LG says that the vehicle will have a number of ‘modes’ to configure its interiors. That includes a shopping mode, an office mode, a fitness mode, a camping mode, and a sleep mode. According to the company, they are all designed to offer “the comfort and convenience of your home on the move.”

Alongside the Vision Omnipod, LG also unveiled a number of concept robots, including the CLOi Serve Bot, which the company claims is capable of serving drinks and snacks to guests. There’s also the CLOi GuideBot, which can direct guests to their destination could potentially be used at conferences and retail stores. The company also demoed a delivery robot that can deliver packages door-to-door. Alongside the bots and futuristic vehicles, LG also unveiled a 97-inch OLED TV, new UltraGear gaming accessories, the InstaView refrigerator, the WashTower washer/dryer combo, the PuriCare Aero air purifier, and more.
