Life After Lockup: Kristianna Asks Estranged Son To Attend Wedding

Kristianna Roth is taking a bold step on Life After Lockup by reaching out to her estranged son and asking that he attend her wedding to John Miller. In an exclusive clip of the Friday, September 17 episode, Kristianna opens up about losing custody of her son when he was a baby because of her drug abuse. She expresses the shame she feels as a mother for not having much of a relationship with her child. In what appears to be her way of extending an olive branch, Kristianna invites her son to watch her walk down the aisle. But are her efforts too little too late?

Since her debut in season 3 of Love After Lockup, Kristianna has been transparent about the substance abuse issues that led her to prison. She managed to find love with John just three months ahead of her release. As soon as they were together, John pulled over and married Kristianna in a roadside traditional ceremony of his Native American heritage. But after relapsing while living in a tempting halfway house, Kristianna was sent back to jail for violating her probation. While away, John began flirting with her sister Tara and damaged the trust within his marriage.

Now, in an attempt to redeem himself, John re-proposed to Kristianna and the two are planning a second wedding that will be more like the ceremony his wife had in mind. In an exclusive clip from Friday’s episode, cameras follow Kristianna as she musters up the courage to call her estranged son. “It has been a year and a half since I’ve seen my son Devin,” she admits. “He has never seen me sober and he is 20 years old.” The shocking revelation points to how long Kristianna has struggled with drug abuse and how it affected her family. Despite how well things are going between her and John, Kristianna still has loose ties with her family that need fixing.

Kristianna gets a chance to catch up with her son on FaceTime. During her confessional, she recalls having Devin when she was just 16 but losing custody of him when he was only 21 months old. “Honestly I’m glad that his dad took custody of him because I didn’t want him to see me high,” Kristianna admits. With tears in her eyes, Kristianna confesses to how “worthless” she feels as a mother for losing custody of her son and not having much of a relationship with him. She admits she chose drugs over her child. During their chat, Kristianna reveals her intention in the call by asking her son to attend her wedding.

But Devin shows his reluctance to attend the ceremony since he hasn’t spent much time with his mom since she has been out of prison. “It’s kind of hard to just up and go to something big like that,” her son tells her. “I just got to think about it,” he adds. Kristianna tells producers that seeing her son at her wedding would be the most special thing to her. As she tries to get her life together on Life After Lockup, there’s hope for Kristianna and Devin’s relationship as mother and child. Kristianna is proof that it’s never too late to try.
