Lacey Whitlow’s three eldest kids were seen a lot more during season four of Life After Lockup. While previous seasons focused more on Lacey’s love triangle with Shane Whitlow and John Slater, this latest season followed her first pregnancy with Shane. While speaking exclusively with ScreenRant, Lacey opened up about why her kids were seen more this last season and what her co-parenting relationship is like with their father.

With her carrying one child after initially expecting triplets, Lacey spent more time at home with her husband and three kids. This was her first pregnancy during a pandemic and she had already suffered complications. The drama wasn’t anything she was trying to entertain, which is why she decided to cut off communication with her ex John. Cameras followed him and he dealt with the reality of Lacey moving on without him. However, he shared his frustration over his belief that she called the cops on him and put him back in jail. By season’s end, Lacey and Shane welcomed their daughter Summer Rayne Whitlow.

Shane has appeared to adapt well to life with Lacey and her three children from previous relationships. When she first appeared on season two of Love After Lockup, she shared the possibility of John being the father of her third child. However, that was later revealed to not be the case. During an exclusive chat with ScreenRant, Lacey didn’t reveal her kid’s father but did share her “happy” co-parenting relationship.  “I would say it used to not be good, but it’s definitely gotten a lot better,” she revealed of her off-screen family life. “It’s going good, and the kids are happy. As long as the kids are happy, then that’s all that matters,” she added.

It looks like Lacey might have had even more drama going on in her life than she allowed the cameras to film. The show has already captured physical showdowns between Shane and John. But, with her teasing how things have only just gotten good with her kid’s father, Lacey might have even more storyline to last another four seasons. She went on to share why her kids weren’t seen on the show as much in past seasons. “My kids, they’re on a little bit more this season,” she explained. “In the past, they didn’t really want to film, or we just had so much going on that they just didn’t need to be around what’s going on.”

She shared their enjoyment of seeing themselves on television. “They love it when we’re filming, and they think it’s kind of cool to see themselves on TV. They like it,” she added. Now with a new addition to the family, there are even more memories the family is creating together.
