A fan artist has reimagined Lightyear‘s spacesuit as Steve Rogers’ quantum suit from Avengers: EndgameLightyear is an upcoming spin-off from Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. The original Toy Story, which premiered in 1995, was the flagship film for the animation studio. One of the most popular characters from the series is Buzz Lightyear, a merchandise tie-in toy who thinks he’s actually a spacefaring astronaut. In the early 2000’s, the in-universe fictional adventures of the Buzz character was explored in the animated series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and the direct-to-video film Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins.

The Lightyear trailer debuted this week and became Pixar’s second-highest viewed within 24 hours. Lightyear, which will blast off into theaters on June 17, 2022, also takes place within that in-universe fictional story of Buzz Lightyear. The film, which was helmed by Finding Dory co-director Angus MacLane, will explore the origin of the character, as voiced by Chris Evans.

Parisian graphic designer and artist Samuel Chevé has made a habit of mashing up different franchises. He especially loves bringing Marvel into the fold, including a recent image reimagining Dune‘s Timothée Chalamet as Spider-Man across from his co-star Zendaya as MJ. This time around, he has taken Buzz Lightyear’s spacesuit and redesigned it to look like Steve Rogers’ quantum suit from Avengers: Endgame, which he uses to travel back in time to gather the infinity stones. Chevé’s caption pays homage to this, reading “TO THE INFINITY STONES AND BEYOND.” Check out the post below:

This is the latest of many mash-ups involving Lightyear. Fans have been fascinated by the redesign of Buzz Lightyear as a more human-looking animated character, and have been pushing the envelope with how they can completely alter his style. Most recently, an artist designed an alternate Buzz that looks like Guy Fieri.

Samuel Chevé isn’t alone in connecting Lightyear to the Avengers universe because of the presence of Evans. Indeed, the trailer itself continues a running MCU joke of Chris Evans not completing iconic lines. Little is known about the plot of the film at this point, and the trailer doesn’t feature enough dialogue to help matters along at this point in time. However, knowing Pixar’s penchant for in-jokes, it’s entirely possible that the Marvel legacy of Captain America might continue being explored through subtle jokes and references throughout the film.
