A new Lightyear poster and images arriving revealing Chris Evans’ Space Ranger teammates as they embark on an intergalactic adventure. Announced at the 2020 Disney Investor Day, the Toy Story spin-off hails from franchise co-creator Pete Docter with Angus MacLane directing. Lightyear marks MacLane’s debut in the director’s chair after working as an animator on every Pixar film from A Bug’s Life to Toy Story 3 and later working on the Senior Creative Team for Finding Dory through Turning Red, the former of which he co-directed and provided additional story material to.

Lightyear serves as an origin story for Buzz Lightyear, the hero who would go on to inspire the action figure from the Toy Story movies. The film follows Buzz as a rookie test pilot who is marooned on an alien planet with other members of the Star Command and must figure a way to get everyone back home while fighting against the Evil Emperor Zurg and his forces. With only a few months remaining until the film’s arrival, Pixar is offering new looks at Lightyear.

On the heels of unveiling a new trailer for the spin-off, Pixar has released a new Lightyear poster and images from the film. The photos reveal Chris Evans’ Space Ranger team and features new looks at Buzz’ robot companion, Sox, voiced by Pixar vet Peter Sohn. Check out the new images and poster below:

The new Lightyear poster and images offer some interesting insight into Buzz’ Space Ranger team and their intergalactic adventure. Both the new trailer and previous footage for the Toy Story spin-off have pointed towards Chris Evans’ titular hero going on the journey into space by himself, but the new images seem to point towards the young hero having a group of ambitious recruits join him in finding a way to get everyone home. While some may be more eager to see Evans’ Buzz establish his heroic status, his Space Ranger team is sure to capture audience interest with Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Taika Waititi voicing the group.

Since its announcement, Toy Story fans have been generally mixed on their response to Lightyear given its recasting of Tim Allen in the titular role. However, the various trailers and images revealed in the months since have worked towards changing audience favor back in its direction with its still-mysterious space-faring journey, the gorgeous animation Pixar has made its name on and the confirmation of the return of Buzz’ original suit design. The wait for Lightyear is nearly over as the film is set to soar into theaters on June 17.
