New photos from the live-adaptation reboot of The Little Mermaid show Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer-King together as Ariel and Prince Eric and it looks like they’re filming the iconic “Kiss the Girl” scene. The classic 1989 animated film based on Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale is the latest Disney classic to be remade as a live-action movie. It will also feature Melissa McCarthy as the sea witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton. Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Daveed Diggs have been cast as Ariel’s adorable animal friends Scuttle, Flounder, and Sebastian.

While previous films such as Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast faithfully followed their original versions, The Little Mermaid looks like it’s getting a major update with Bailey and Hauer-King’s pairing as Ariel and Prince Eric. The two actors are currently in the picturesque coastal town of Sardinia, Italy to film their scenes. Bailey was recently spotted wearing Ariel’s burlap sack dress while Hauer-King was photographed in tattered clothes for the prince’s shipwrecked look. These leaked set photos showing the lead stars in their costumes are certainly drumming up the fans’ excitement over the upcoming movie.

New photos from this week’s filming hint at another iconic scene from the movie. Obtained by Just Jared, the pictures show Bailey and Hauer-King getting on a boat that’s been decorated with foliage and flowers. The Grown-ish actress was wearing a ruffled peach dress with puffy sleeves and her on-screen partner donned white trousers and a white shirt overlayed with a navy vest. The pictures looked very reminiscent of The Little Mermaid’s “Kiss the Girl” number, causing fans to speculate that the actors were filming the memorable scene.

In the 1989 animated movie, Sebastian the crab orchestrated the romantic boat ride in the hopes that Prince Eric will kiss Ariel and break Ursula’s curse. He got help from his animal friends to serenade the pair, but Ursula’s sidekicks managed to capsize the boat just before the two shared a kiss. The catchy song and great visuals made the scene one of the movie’s most unforgettable moments. While Bailey and Hauer-King’s costumes resembled what Ariel and Prince Eric wore in their boat ride, it is interesting to note that Diggs, who plays Sebastian in the remake, was not present during the shoot. It is unclear if the actor will be filmed separately and added into the scenes via CGI.

It is always a tricky business to remake a massively successful film, but Disney plans to continue the trend with The Little Mermaid. While little is known about the highly anticipated reboot, set photos indicate that it will retain beloved moments from the classic film and mixing them with modern elements. This formula has worked for previous Disney live-adaptation movies, setting up The Little Mermaid to live up to fans’ high expectations.
