Bandai Namco has announced the release of the Little Nightmare 2 PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC upgrade. The upgrade is free for those who already own the terrifying tale of Six and new Little Nightmares 2 character Mono, which first release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 earlier this year. The upgraded version of the game is titled Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition.

Tarsier Studios’ Little Nightmares 2 is the sequel to the 2017 original, and continues the story of the silent protagonist Six, who this time serves as a partner for the playable character, Mono. The game is a puzzle-platformer featuring limited combat, and takes place in a dark and twisted world. With the help of Six, players are tasked with escaping the new nightmare they’re trapped in. The game has received high praise from both critics and players and proved to be a commercial success, with LittleNightmares 2 passing a million sales a month after its launch.

Announcing the news across social media, Little Nightmares 2 and Bandai Namco confirmed the free upgrade is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and GOG. Little Nightmares 2 Enhanced Edition will feature ray-traced reflections, “increased volumetric shadows, and particles,” and improved loading times. The upgrade also offers “a new immersive 3D soundscape mix when using a 5.1 / 7.1 audio system.” New graphics mode options will also be available: Beauty and Performance. Bandai Namco explains:

“If you choose Beauty Mode, the game will run at 30 FPS at 4k resolution. Performance Mode on the other hand locks gameplay at 60 FPS with dynamic resolution up to 4k. PC players will be able to adjust these options independently.”

The free PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC upgrade should provide an all-new way to experience the game’s terror, with the performance improvements offering a new level of immersion both through visuals and sound. Players who already own Little Nightmares 2 can upgrade to the Enhanced Edition through the settings of whichever platform they have the title on. Those looking to buy Little Nightmares 2 now it’s been upgraded for new-generation systems will find it included as part of digital purchases, or available as a separate download with physical copies.

Bandai Namco rounded off its announcement with a thank you to the players, recognizing the success of the game’s release. Unfortunately, the news doesn’t come with details on Tarsier Studios’ next project. Despite the game’s success, it’s not looking likely that a Little Nightmares 3 will ever happen, which is a disappointing blow for fans new and old. While the future of the series is unclear, players can at least experience Little Nightmares 2 like never before thanks to the release of the Enhanced Edition.
