Live-Action Teen Titans Series Casts Teagan Croft As Raven

Titans has found its first cast member in Teagan Croft as Raven, as the series finally looks like it will become a reality. For years, rumors have abounded that DC and Warner Bros. TV were attempting to craft a live-action Teen Titans series. Already a hit in the comics and a number of animated shows and films, Titans would see characters like Beast Boy and Raven realized in live-action for the first time. Earlier this year, word broke that Titans was finally a go and would be joining the new season of Young Justice on DC’s brand-new digital streaming service.

Crafting the show will be Akiva Goldsman, best know for his work on Transformers and the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery. Joining him as writers and producers will be DC head Geoff Johns and Arrowverse overseer Greg Berlanti. Given the pedigree of those involved, the series should be something fans old and new will enjoy. Just a couple of weeks ago, the show finally began production. And now, casting for the main characters has begun.

Deadline is reporting that newcomer Teagan Croft (The Osiris Child) will be joining Titans as Raven. An unknown Australian actor, we can likely expect the rest of the cast to be young up-and-comers. A gifted magic user, Raven is part demonic and will be struggling in the show to control her empathic powers. The extent of her abilities isn’t known, but we can likely expect a downgrade in terms of her skills.

So far, Croft is the only member of the cast. Thanks to a character breakdown, however, we do know who each of the main heroes will be. Along with Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Dick Grayson will be coming to the show. What role Batman will play in the show is unknown, but we’ll likely see Grayson as Nightwing rather than Robin.

While the other characters will probably be played by newcomers, Grayson will likely be a bigger name as the leader of the group. We’ve had hints that Drake Bell could tackle the role, but it’s anyone’s guess at this point. Regardless, expect an actor that will be able to draw in an audience.

Given how popular Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! have been, the show could benefit from the appeal of the cartoons. Then again, the name change and a more mature tone could distance a potential audience. The streaming platform may also make things difficult. That said, the creators involved and the characters themselves could help make up for any barriers. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.

Titans will premiere sometime in 2018 on DC’s digital streaming service.
