Netflix releases a new Locke & Key season 2 clip featuring a trailer for The Splattering, the movie created by a group of teens in the series. The fantasy horror drama revolves around the Locke family as they move into Keyhouse, the childhood home of their murdered patriarch, and discover a collection of keys granting mystical abilities, which are being sought after by a demonic entity known as Dodge. Locke & Key spent years trying to get off the ground at a number of networks and film studios before Netflix would acquire the rights to Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s graphic novel series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Locke & Key season 2 picks up sometime after the cliffhanger finale of season 1 in which it was revealed that Griffin Gluck’s Gabe, boyfriend to Locke daughter Kinsey and seeming ally to the group, is actually Dodge in disguise and Hallea Jones’ Eden is now possessed by another demonic entity from the realm behind the Omega Door. The Locke kids will have to rely on their friends and a number of newly discovered keys to put a stop to Dodge’s destructive plans before it’s too late. Netflix renewed Locke & Key for season 2 a month after the show’s premiere and has already picked up the series for season 3, which concluded production last month.

With just a week remaining until the series’ return, Netflix has unveiled a new Locke & Key season 2 clip. The video begins with a fake trailer for the in-series horror movie The Splattering made by Kinsey Locke and her friends as well as looks at Eden’s demonic antics. Check out the clip below:

Those who watched Locke & Key season 1 will remember The Splattering as the low-budget horror movie that would not only help Kinsey begin to break out of her shell but also introduce her to her new friends the Savini squad, affectionately named for iconic visual effects artist/actor/director Tom Savini who made a cameo in season 1. The fake trailer is sure to come as an exciting nod to the B-movie horror genre the film is looking to homage, though more interestingly is the footage that follows the fake trailer. While a simple trick of editing could give the appearance of the film or its trailer screening in a theater with everyone watching, it would be charming to see the Savini squad get to show the film in a theater in the small town.

The new clip for Locke & Key season 2 also gives a look at the interesting new dynamic between Gabe and Eden following the latter’s demonic possession in the season 1 finale. While the ending seemingly established Gabe as a boss to the newly arrived demon, the video seemingly hints at a more rebellious spirit inside of Eden, likely to cause problems for the still-in-disguise Dodge’s plans of remaining close to Kinsey and the Lockes. Only time will tell when Locke & Key season premieres on Netflix on October 22.
