Have an Android phone and wish you could use the Locket Widget app that iPhone users keep raving about? Thanks to a few Locket Widget Android alternatives that are already available, Android users can (kind of) get the same experience. Ever since the first iPhones and Android handsets hit the scene, there’s been a constant divide between the two platforms — one of the biggest being app availability. While most iPhone apps are also on Android these days, there are still certain applications here and there that are exclusively on the iPhone.

Such is the case with Locket Widget. Released in January 2022, Locket Widget is an iPhone-exclusive app that allows users to send photos to their friends’ home screens. After downloading the app and adding people to your friends’ group, sending photos is as easy as tapping the Locket Widget app, snapping a picture, and tapping the send button. Pictures are immediately sent to your friends’ Locket widgets, and any photos they send appear on your home screen. It’s a fun and novel way to communicate, but as of right now, the app isn’t available for Android.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

When it comes to Locket Widget Android alternatives, it’s a pretty sticky situation. A quick search on the Google Play Store instantly reveals a ton of Locket Widget Android alternatives. There are three different apps with the same ‘Locket Widget’ name, all of which feature app icons and marketing materials almost identical to the official Locket Widget app. Unfortunately — thanks to broken designs, missing features, and security concerns — most of them aren’t worth using.

The Problem With Locket Widget Android Alternatives

Take the app ‘Locket Widget – theme & widget’ by developer ‘Good notes 5’ as an example. It makes itself look identical to the actual Locket Widget app and says, “Locket is a Widget that displays live images of your friends directly on your phone screen.” While it does have a widget that adds photos to your home screen, it only shows photos that you add to the widget — not ones sent by friends and family. ‘Locket Widget’ by ‘flashclean’ is another concerning one. At launch, the app asks users to enter their phone number to use it. There are lots of apps that do this, but flashclean has no prior history on the Google Play Store beyond its Locket Widget imitator. Furthermore, the in-app link to its Privacy Policy doesn’t do anything, while the link to the Terms of Service shows a 404 error written in Chinese (roughly translated to ‘Unsupported jump links’). That’s not to say flashclean is purposefully up to something nefarious, but handing over your phone number to a completely unknown developer probably isn’t the best idea.

And other alternatives are just straight-up broken. ‘Locket Widget’ by ‘Ghina1212!’ has nothing but a couple of marketing pages and is displayed way too small on the phone. In other words, it’s totally useless. Out of all the Locket Widget Android alternatives out there, the best option right now is an app called ‘PicShare’ by ‘RaidAndFade.’ Rather than requiring a phone number or email address, PicShare users are asked to join or create a PIN. Then, any photos they take through the PicShare widget are sent to users logged in with the same PIN. The app is very barebones and lacks some of the features on Locket Widget, but it gets the job done and is easy enough to use.

At the end of the day, all of the Locket Widget Android alternatives are about what you’d expect: Copycat apps trying to mimic the real thing. Some of them work better than others, but none work as well as the official Locket Widget. There may come a day when Locket Widget arrives on Android and removes the need for these third-party alternatives, but until then, these are the best options Android users have.
