Back in 2017, Logan Paul filmed a suicide victim in Japan’s Aokigahara forest and became arguably the most hated YouTuber on the planet. While Paul has certainly come a long way since then, it seems he is still paying for his actions. Literally.

Logan Paul is no stranger to stirring up controversy. He’s recently made headlines due to his upcoming pro boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. In 2017, Logan made a trip to Japan, as a part of a global tour where he vlogged while traveling the world. Unfortunately for the Japanese, he was perceived as highly disrespectful during his time in the country. However, the tipping point of the trip was when Paul decided to visit Japan’s famed suicide forest, which is located at the base of Mount Fuji. There, he encountered and filmed a suicide victim’s dead body. Many people felt that he exploited the victim for personal gain.

As a result of the backlash he received, Logan is now facing a $3 million dollar lawsuit from the production company Planeless Pictures. Back in 2016, he had collaborated with the company to produce and star in the film, Airplane Mode. Planeless Pictures reps claim the company’s relationship with Logan Paul caused Google to pull out of a promotional deal which was worth an estimated $3.5 million dollars, according to NBC News. Specifically, the deal stipulated that YouTube would agree to promote and distribute the movie, Airplane Mode. The YouTuber’s actions are said to have effectively nixed any chance of the deal going forward.

Since the posting of the now-infamous video, Logan has made efforts to try to redeem himself. He posted a heartfelt apology video, explaining his mindset while making the video. He acknowledged the mistake that he made. As someone who is young and still growing, he seemed to learn from the experience. However, the consequences of his actions linger. Compilation videos of his time in Japan circulated the Internet, substantiating the media’s distaste for the YouTube star. See two videos below:

Three years have gone by since Logan initially made amends for his actions but he’s still paying the price. If it’s likely his prior conduct is the reason that Google pulled out of a promotional deal with Planeless Pictures, then he may need to pay a hefty fine. However, the YouTuber will probably keep trying to put this behind him. $3.5 million dollars is a fraction of what the star makes each year and he is set to make a lot more once he meets Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the ring.

At the end of the day, Logan Paul will probably look back on the experience he had and hopefully appreciate the personal growth it sparked.
