Spoiler Warning for Disney+’s Loki

Loki revealed the big bad behind the Time Variance Authority and the Time Keepers as He Who Remains. While the show doesn’t identify him beyond that, context clues have signaled to comic book fans that this is Kang The Conqueror. It’s clear the time-traveling supervillain has a major future in the MCU, but how will it play out?

Comic fans know that Kang The Conqueror is a major Avengers and Fantastic Four villain the Marvel universe going back to the 1960s. The comics may support a lot of theories for his future in the MCU, but he’s already changed a little for the screen, meaning there are a number of ways his MCU story could go.

10 Kang Will Be The Big Bad Of Phase 4

One thing that seems fairly certain is that Kang The Conqueror will be the big bad of Phase 4 of the MCU. His certain importance to the second season of Loki, as well as the fact that numerous movies like Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness will be dealing with the multiverse in some form, means that his actions will be at the heart of much of the next phase.

It’s easy to speculate Kang will be the Thanos of the upcoming MCU slate, but it remains to be seen if his arc will span multiple phases or just one.

9 The Hidden City In The Quantum Realm Is Chronopolis

One of the best – and easiest to miss – Easter eggs in Ant-Man And The Wasp was the bubble city in the Quantum Realm. Some theories even speculated that the TVA was located in the Quantum Realm city. While that’s not the case, it is most likely Chronopolis, the temporal kingdom of Kang The Conqueror.

Chrronopolis exists outside of time and is essentially a giant trophy room for all of Kang’s prizes from the past and future. This is a major location for some of the most important story arcs involving Kang The Conqueror, and given his announced appearance in the sequel to Ant-Man And The Wasp, Chronopolis seems likely.

8 Kang Will Be A Variant In Quantummania

One theory suggests the MCU could be dealing with multiple versions of Kang. One of them will certainly appear in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania. It’s very unlikely that this movie will dispose of Kang as a villain, so any version of him that appears will only be a variant and not the main or ‘prime’ Kang.

However, his connection to the Quantum Realm suggests he could be an important and dangerous variant, perhaps one who has been hiding out from the pruning shears of He Who Remains in a place where time doesn’t really exist.

7 He Will Appear In The Multiverse Of Madness

A number of MCU characters are confirmed for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Kang The Conqueror should be counted among them. Given that the movie is likely to deal directly with the fallout of what happened at the end of Loki‘s season finale, an appearance by Kang only makes sense.

It could be an early opportunity for Kang The Conqueror to show how truly frightening he is. Doctor Strange could be dealing with multiple Kangs, or perhaps just one, who may make He Who Remains seem positively gentle.

6 Kang And Ravonna Will Fall In Love

Comic book fans know that Ravonna Renslayer and Kang The Conqueror are a couple in Marvel Comics. The same can be expected for the MCU.

Though their backstories are very different from the comics – Ravonna was a 40th-century princess and not a high school principal abducted by the TVA – their trajectories are destined to cross. Ravonna leaves the TVA at the end of season one seeking the person behind it and seeking power. She will likely find it in one of the Kang variants, possibly the main one.

5 He Will Weaponize The TVA

In the season finale of Loki, Loki has returned to the Time Variance Authority, but not the one he left. In place of the statues of the Time Keepers, there is one of a comic book version of Kang The Conqueror. While He Who Remains used the TVA to prune potential Kangs, it’s likely this version of the organization is a much more militant one.

While the TVA under He Who Remains eliminated variants, it did allow for ‘what was supposed to happen.’ That is likely out the window now. The Kang controlling this version of the TVA is most likely using them to create his version of history, cultivated to his exact whim.

4 Kang Will Play A Role In The Fantastic Four

While the MCU Fantastic Four movie is at least a few years off, fans can probably be certain that Kang The Conqueror will play some kind of role in the movie.

Considering their long and complicated connection to Kang in the comics and his role in Phase 4, he could be the first villain they face. Kang has been a villain of the team in many forms. He actually first fought them – unbeknownst to them or comics fans – as the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Rama Tut in Fantastic Four #19 in 1963.

3 There Will Be A Good Kang

Fans can probably expect as many variants of Kang as there have been variants of Loki in the MCU. One of them is bound to be a hero, and one already exists in Marvel Comics. Iron Lad is a teenage variant of Kang who rejected his destiny and formed the Young Avengers to fight his evil self.

Since numerous Young Avengers characters like Kid Loki, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, and Patriot already exist in the MCU (or in the case of Kate Bishop are about to), it only makes sense Iron Lad will too.

2 Kang Will Erase The MCU Timeline

Thanos has the power to erase half of all life in the universe. Kang The Conqueror can erase entire timelines. He’s already done it in the form of He Who Remains. Kang’s gambit in the MCU will likely be to erase the entire MCU timeline to make way for his ambitions.

He will likely succeed in the same way Thanos did. Kang represents a fantastic way for the MCU to retcon or reboot any or all elements of the franchise, should the need for it arise. If the MCU decides to reboot or recast Iron Man, for example, Kang is the way to do it.

1 It All Ends In Battleworld

Battleworld was the name of the planet beyond time created by The Beyonder in 1985’s comic book crossover Secret Wars, where he cast all of Earth’s greatest heroes and villains. That sounds a lot like The Void, the place where He Who Remains dumped all pruned variants and timelines.

It’s likely that a major battle between universes and timelines leads back here, as it did in the 2015 version of Secret Wars. If Kang prunes the entire MCU, it will end up in The Void, leading to a cataclysmic battle that could integrate numerous universes and variants of iconic characters.
