Warning! Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Loki episode 6, “For All Time. Always”

While Marvel’s Loki may have revealed the MCU’s next big bad with Kang the Conqueror/He Who Remains, it may have also revealed the next Phil Coulson in the form of Owen Wilson’s Agent Mobius M. Mobius. By the end of Loki’s first season, Mobius proved himself to be a good friend and strong ally to the God of Mischief, working alongside the various variants of Lokis to uncover the truth behind the TVA and the Time-Keepers themselves. As such, it’s quite possible that Mobius could become a multiversal agent working behind the scenes in multiple future MCU films, helping the heroes trying to contain the coming madness just as Agent Phil Coulson worked to aid the Avengers before his death.

While Agent Mobius was originally presented as a loyal company man for the TVA, it soon became apparent that there was more going on with his organization than he realized, and large elements were soon revealed to be fake such as the Time-Keepers. Due to his trust in Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Mobius’ entire reality was shaken with the knowledge that he and all his fellow employees were variants themselves, each of them having places on the Sacred Timeline before they were recruited and had their minds wiped. As a result, he stuck by Loki and his variants and became a key player in uncovering the truth about who was really controlling the TVA (He Who Remains).

Now, a variant of He Who Remains (Kang) has taken over the TVA by the end of the first season, leaving Mobius and Hunter B-15 having no idea who Loki is (either due to mind-wiping or their existence being on a whole new timeline). Despite this fact, the God of Mischief may find a way to restore Mobius’ memories in order to get his help going forward. Regardless, Marvel Studios should seriously think about featuring Mobius in more MCU projects than just the recently announced Loki season 2, as he seems primed to fill the shoes of Agent Phil Coulson albeit on a bigger, more multiversal level. Mobius can be the man working behind the scenes, doing the paperwork, and offering the exposition so the bigger heroes can do what they need to.

It seems fairly likely that Owen Wilson will at least be reprising his role whenever Loki season 2 releases, as there’s definitely more of his story that needs to be told. That being said, he could also do so much more in the Marvel Cinematic Universe given the opportunity. Just like Phil Coulson, Mobius seems to be just as comfortable in a support role as he is out in the field when the situation arises like when he rescued Sylvie from the temporal tempest known as Alioth while trapped in the Void.

In any case, Mobius M. Mobius has the potential to be a genuine asset to the MCU, and one could even imagine a TVA spin-off series starring Mobius down the line, not unlike Coulson’s Agents of SHIELD series that aired on ABC. He certainly seems to have a similar fan following, and Mobius would definitely be a good supporting character to have around in the midst of the multiversal chaos that will be rampant the next few Marvel films in Phase 4. Regardless, fingers are crossed that Agent Mobius has an exciting and solid future ahead of him in the MCU that will perhaps go beyond Loki’s second season.

Loki will return for season 2.
