One of League of Legends’ oldest champions, Rammus, is finally getting a rework in Season 11 and the changes have now hit the PBE (Public Beta Environment) for testing. Rammus is just one of several champions in the game that are set to receive an update or rework. The VGU (Visual and Gameplay Update), which is a full rework, of Dr. Mundo is scheduled to release later this year while Udyr is the next champion to receive a VGU after winning the game’s latest fan poll.

Champions aren’t the only element of League of Legends that are getting updates and reworks in Season 11. Developer Riot Games introduced an overhaul of the in-game shop and added the new Mythic item system, along with the removal of a few League of Legends items, with the start of the new season. However, champion updates and reworks are the biggest changes that the game often sees.

Riot Games Senior VFX Artist Leroy ‘Sirhaian’ Kevin revealed on Twitter that the updates to Rammus would be hitting the PBE on April 3. One of the biggest changes that Rammus is getting is his new ultimate ability, which players of League of Legends’ mobile version Wild Rift got to experience first when the champion was released in that game just recently. Now called Soaring Slam, the reworked ability now causes Rammus to leap up and slam into the ground. The ability can be used in conjunction with his Powerball ability to also throw opponents up into the air if they’re hit with Soaring Slam.

Sirhaian also shared some of the visual effect changes to the champion, which include an update to his base VFXs as well as the effects of some of his skins. While some of the champion’s skins are getting recolors and additional effects, the changes to other skins are relatively minor. Notably, while the visual effect changes to most of Rammus’s abilities will be applied to the champion when he becomes available on the PBE tomorrow, the VFX change to his Frenzying Taunt is not showcased in the initial preview video that Sirhaian shared but is shown in a follow-up clip and is set to be added a few days after Rammus’s PBE release.

While most of the updates to Rammus are visual and bring him more in line with the game’s modern visuals, his new ultimate ability will definitely change how he’s played and could make him more relevant in the game’s meta. It’s just one of the many things that Riot Game is set to release for League of Legends during the course of Season 11, along with new champions such as Gwen.
