While Arwen might be a side character in The Lord of the Rings, she’s a fascinating one. Many fans love the character as she is Elvish royalty and the daughter of Elrond, and they also loved the romantic relationship between her and Aragorn.

All of the characters from the films had very elaborate costumes that were given a lot of time and detail in order to ensure they were perfect. But, Arwen’s frocks were some of the most lavish and beautiful costumes from the entire series.

9 The Helm’s Deep outfit

Some fans might not recognize this outfit and might wonder where it came from. This makes sense as this costume never made it into the final cut of the theatrical release or into the extended edition.

While Arwen was going to arrive at Helm’s Deep, the filmmakers decided it wasn’t necessary. But, a costume was made for her, and Liv Tyler even filmed scenes in this maroon ensemble.

8 Her Lothlorien dress

While it’s somewhat wild to think about given how long all of the movies were, there were many scenes that never made it to any version. Even with all of the extra scenes included in the extended editions, a lot of material was filmed that will never be seen.

Arwen had a dress she wore while visiting her grandmother, Galadriel who also has some amazing gowns, in Lothlorien. It was a pale purple dress with intricate silver designs, and it’s a shame it didn’t make it on screen.

7 The pale shift from The Two Towers

Of all of Arwen’s outfits, this one is by far the most sensual and even rather sexy. She wears this shift in The Two Towers during a dream sequence with Aragorn. It’s a lavender color and very delicate and feminine.

The dress has many soft drapes that hang n her curves, and it is very dreamlike in quality. While it’s not as intricate as some of her other gowns, it’s very beautiful in a more simple way.

6 Blue and silver dress

This frock is one that Arwen wears in quite a few scenes from Return of the King. The main part of the dress is a lovely blue velvet, and it has long, wide sleeves that definitely bring that Elvish look.

The neckline on this dress was also really low and open, and while it’s very pretty, it’s not quite as form-fitting or attention-grabbing as some of the other customers for this character.

When it comes to the outfits on The Lord of the Rings, there are many that only appear for a brief scene and some that don’t appear at all. This just goes to show the effort that went into creating these films as every costume was painstakingly created no matter how much it would be featured. This dress is the darkest and most depressing one Arwen wears.

But, it only really is shown in brief moments in the visions of Arwen’s future after Aragorn is dead. While it’s a funeral dress, it’s definitely gorgeous.

5 Farewell to the Fellowship dress

This might be one of Arwen’s more underrated outfits, but it’s really a shame as the whole ensemble is stunning. The dress is silvery and blue, and it does look similar to outfits that Elrond wears just more feminine.

It also features a purple belt/sash that falls down to the ground. Arwen looks very much like she belongs in Rivendell in this gown, but she is also given clothes that set her apart as more than just your average elf.

4 The white dress from Fellowship of the Ring

This is one of the more ethereal and angelic outfits that Arwen wears. We first see her in this gown when she shows up for the first time in The Fellowship of the Ring, and Frodo sees her.

Then, she wears the dress again on the bridge scene with Aragorn. It’s white and slightly sparkly and shiny but in a very elegant way. She looks exactly like Elven royalty here, and it really highlights her beauty.

3 The chase dress/robe

While often Arwen’s outfits are more extravagant and clearly meant for a person who spends their days more in leisure, this outfit is a nice contrast.

It shows that Arwen does have the skills and ability to do things like riding a horse and go into battle. While the color is a more understated grey, it still has some finishing touches that show this isn’t the coat of just anyone.

2 The pale green coronation dress

Of all the outfits Arwen wears throughout the three movies, this is one of the best. While it does come across as elvish, it’s also unique compared to most of the other frocks in the series.

This gown is in a color not often seen in the films, and the pale green definitely complements Arwen’s skin, eyes, and hair. Plus, with the elaborate circlet she wears, it’s a dress fit for a queen.

1 Her mourning gown

While the coronation dress is definitely beautiful, light, and airy, this gown is the complete opposite. However, it’s generally seen as her best outfit.

The dark blue dress almost looks black and the red colors on the sleeves and neckline bring out the dark, intense energy of this dress. While Arwen might be mourning and possibly losing the light of the Valar in these scenes, the dress is jaw-dropping in its detailing.
