If a contestant doesn’t strike up a natural and meaningful romance on Love Island, one surefire way to remain in the villa is to have an extremely funny personality. In the case of the US spinoff of the hit UK reality dating show, some of the funniest cast members have made a deep run for the $100,000 grand prize. Both viewers and fellow housemates tend to enjoy the company of those who make the others laugh and generally raise spirits through levity.

With season 4 of Love Island USA poised to hit the airwaves in 2022, now is as good a time as any to reflect on some of the show’s most intentionally and unintentionally hilarious cast members of all.

Caroline “Caro” Viehweg (Season 1)

Without a doubt, the funniest cast member in Season 1 is Caroline “Caro” Viehweg, the extremely brash, bubbly, and ultra-confident 21-year-old with a flair for the dramatic. Whether she gives candid opinions without regard for what others think or gives hysterical wide-eyed facial reactions to other people, Caro induces smiles nearly every time she’s onscreen.

Despite pairing up with three different boys and failing to find true romance on the show, Caro’s winning personality allowed her to finish in a respectable third place. Caro has since parlayed her sense of humor on her own Youtube channel, where she creates all sorts hilarious of content.

Alexandra Stewart (Season 1)

Alexandra Stewart was another extremely funny Season 1 contestant on Love Island USA. Her beaming smile, affable demeanor, and playful extroversion helped her finish in second place on the beloved reality dating show. As a self-proclaimed tomboy, Alexandra’s ability to joke around with the guys through crude and crass humor while still making the girls laugh is what sets her apart.

Able to poke fun at herself with the best of them, one of Alexandra’s funniest lines came in her introductory interview, where she claimed she’d be willing to move to another state if she found the right match, “unless it’s like, some creepy state that I’ve never heard of.”

Calvin Cobb (Season 2)

Known for his ridiculously lewd strip dancing and constant quips, barbs, and hilarious one-liners, Calvin Cobb was nothing if not funny on Love Island USA Season 2. The ultra-confident Houston native never took himself too seriously and was quick to act a fool, humiliate himself through self-deprecating jokes, and constantly entertain his housemates.

In addition to his playful sense of humor and constant ability to make the others laugh, Calvin showed tremendous heart by recoupling with Moira in the end, knowing that they were the right match. Even in the most dramatic romantic moment, Calvin couldn’t help crack a joke about oysters being an aphrodisiac.

Cely Vazquez (Season 2)

Whether she was cramming marshmallows in her mouth, making fun of her partner Johnny to no end (“I’ve never met anyone from Virginia, are you people even real?”), or acting chaotic as can be with her BFF Justine, Cely Vazquez was an absolute joy to be around in Season 2. Always laughing and smiling, her infectious sense of humor rubbed off on the entire villa.

One of Cely’s funniest moments came when deliberately trying to annoy Justine by slamming pots and pans together to wake her up. Justine leaped out of bed and the two proceeded to have a wrestling match on the ground.

Justine Ndiba (Season 2)

Speaking of Justine Ndiba, the radiant first-place winner of Season 2 and only Black contestant to win so far, she is arguably the most likable Love Island USA contestant to date. So confident in her own skin, Justine’s witty one-liners, waggish joke-telling, and full-body laugh make her impossible to dislike. Her time with Cely provided constant laughter, be it through pillow fights, mirror dancing, or wrestling.

However, it’s Justine’s racy sense of humor with her man Caleb that proved to be the funniest. Justine would say things with deadpan delivery like “it was those pants for me, I would like to see them off you” or “I didn’t mind having the (spaghetti) balls in my mouth…but some of them were really big.” The reaction by Caleb says it all.

Johnny Middlebrooks (Season 2)

Cely’s romantic partner in Season 2, Johnny Middlebrooks, had to showcase a hysterical sense of humor in order to keep up with her hilarious hijinks. Between his in-house rapping with Caleb, pillow fights with Calvin, or racing to manscape before the ladies see him in his bathing suit, Johnny did just that.

With too many funny moments to count, one of Johnny’s standout moments came after discovering the girls toilet-papered the boys’ bedroom, delivering the laugh-out-loud “oh hell no!” response before vowing to exact revenge.

Javonny Vega (Season 3)

As the resident jokester of Season 3, Javonny Vega was an absolute blast to watch. He was the only cast member playful enough to introduce himself via the giant waterslide, indicating how he doesn’t take himself too seriously. Always laughing, smiling, and making harmless jokes at his own expense, Javonny kept things casual and was never mean or confrontational. As such, he had some of the funniest non-romantic moments.

Javonny’s best moment probably came when the couples were forced to see how well they know each other during a challenge, claiming he had “15-ish” romantic partners in the past while Olivia guessed he had more than 50. When asked to guess her biggest desire, he wrote down “being honest” while she wrote down “being wanted.” With deadpan delivery, Javonny uttered “it’s the same,” making the villa erupt.

Korey Gandy (Season 3)

Love Island Season 3 winner Korey Gandy was both intentionally and unintentionally funny during his time in the villa. He was intentionally funny by showcasing his natural personality, which was awkwardly shy at first and confidently assertive by the end. Despite going several weeks without a romance, he remained on the island due to his humorous dynamic.

However, the real reason Korey became such a hilarious cast member was all the times he spent being shut down, placed in the friendzone, and denied one romance after another. It was a tragic comedy of errors for Korey until he eventually met his match in Olivia, a platonic friend for much of the time in the villa. In addition to his personality, Korey’s journey was far funnier than most.

Jeremy Hershberg (Season 3)

The polarizing himbo who everyone loved to hate and hate to love, Jeremy Hershberg increasingly showed off his genuinely hilarious sense of humor. Whether he was doing sexy striptease dancing in the mirror by himself, flexing his muscles in ridiculous fashion, or treating the LoveIsland process like his own carefree speed-dating round, Jeremy was funny and chaotic at once.

With countless romantic partners in the villa that made fans think he stayed too long, Jeremy’s funniest moment came when the islanders voted for him and Korey to consummate their bromance by going on a date together at the gym. “Our journey’s been kind of crazy, I think it worked out for the best,” Jeremy said of his official bromance.

Matthew Hoffman The Narrator (Season 1-3)

While the Narrator isn’t an official contestant on Love Island, Matthew Hoffman is technically a cast member. And since so much of the humor of Love Island comes from the cheeky puns and scathing commentary, Hoffman deserves credit for providing most of the laughs on the show.

Designed to deliberately point out how absurd the show is and how risible the actions of the cast members are, the narrator injects the series with a caustic wit that significantly increases the entertainment value. He may not be as funny as Love Island UK’s narrator, Iain Stirling, but he’s pretty close.
