Noah Purvis is heartbroken about leaving the villa on Love Island. His season two career ended abruptly, much to his and the fans’ consternation. No one was pleased with the decision to cut Purvis from the show, least of all Noah.

Purvis appeared and disappeared from the show, much to the viewers’ confusion. He then left a cryptic message about what happened on his Instagram, which only added to the mystery. Fans were sympathetic and wondered what was going on behind the scenes. After his elimination, rumors emerged claiming Noah was cut from the show because CBS found out about his past as a gay porn star. Fans were furious with the decision and felt CBS’s choice to eliminate Noah was biased and discriminatory.

Recently, Purvis broke his silence on the circumstances surrounding his elimination in an interview with E!. Purvis first confirmed that the producers took him aside and told him he would be eliminated because they found out he did pornography in the past. Purvis explained he was initially shocked, but after he processed the news he “felt crushed.” He said, “I felt like I had disappointed people, not just the producers, but my family, because they had no idea about these things, previous people I have dated, I just felt like a failure.” Purvis explained that he found it difficult to process the sudden elimination and immediately sought out a therapist to deal with the resulting mental health issues. CBS and ITV claimed that by not disclosing this information, Purvis violated his contestant agreement because he “provided false information.” Purvis is still in therapy and is coming to terms with his past and how it may affect him today.

We can all agree this is one of the pettiest reasons to be cut from a reality show, and it shows the double standards CBS embraces. Purvis was doing a job to pay the bills, and he used an alias to protect himself. It wasn’t a case of him lying because he didn’t think those stints belonged on his resume and didn’t see it as a big deal. Also, the producers could have done a background check ahead of time if Purvis’s previous gigs were such a problem.

The producers of the show need to look inward, evaluate their priorities, and issue an apology to Purvis. People aren’t watching Love Island to seek role models or impose their morality on real people. They watch it to have fun and see if true love can blossom within a villa and in full view of the camera. Let’s hope the producers remember that next time around.
