After the fans vote for a couple to win the show, the Love Island USA season 3 finale will ask the champions whether they’d like to split the $100,000 grand prize or keep all that money with just one person. Ultimately, this format aims to answer the question of whether the islanders went on the show for love or for money. If the winning couple opts to split the grand prize, it is understood by the show that they were there for the right reasons.

During the inaugural season of Love Island USA, Elizabeth Weber & Zac Mirabelli won the $100,000 grand prize, and they did choose to split the money. Last year, Justine Ndiba & Caleb Corprew won the grand prize, and they also opted to split the money between them. When it comes to season 3, the finalist couples are Alana Paolucci & Charlie Lynch, Bailey Marshall & Jeremy Hershberg, Kyra Lizama & Will Moncada, and Olivia Kaiser & Korey Gandy.

The grand finale of Love Island USA will air this Sunday, August 15 on CBS. Just like any other season in the Love Island franchise, the viewers can vote for one of the top 4 couples to win the $100,000 grand prize. After host Arielle Vandenberg announces the winning couple, each of those partners will be handed an envelope. One envelope contains a card for the $100,000, whereas the other envelope will be empty. These islanders will open their respective envelopes and find out what’s inside them. The person that ends up with the envelope containing $100,000 gets to decide whether he or she would like to keep the grand prize for him or herself, or if he or she wants to split the money with his or her partner.

The couples that place fourth and third on the show are typically announced pretty early during a Love Island finale. After those announcements are out of the way, the episode then shifts focus to the two remaining couples that made it to the top 2. Historically, there’s never been a winning couple on the British or American editions of Love Island that has chosen not to split the grand prize between them. Even if a winning couple isn’t necessarily in love, it feels like a really selfish move for any islander to claim the prize for him or herself after the public has theoretically voted for those two individuals to win.

Unlike last year, there’s still a lot of uncertainty going into the Love Island USA season 3 finale. The couples’ final dates on the show could sway a few votes in a particular direction, but the public also has very strong feelings over certain islanders in season 3, which will likely affect the overall results.
