Love Island USA season 2 runners-up Johnny Middlebrooks and Cely Vazquez have officially broken up and released their own statements via social media. For a while, the Love Island USA fans were convinced that Cely and Johnny would win the whole season. But the Casa Amor twist changed the game for this couple, at least from the perspective of the viewers. It rubbed people the wrong way that Johnny was so quick to entertain a fling with Mercades Schell at Casa Amor despite having such a strong connection with Cely all season long. Still, one can argue that this entire Casa Amor fling didn’t last very long.

When Johnny returned to the Las Vegas villa on Love Island USA, he told Cely what happened and she was quick to forgive him. Nonetheless, this was just the beginning of a grudge that a lot of fans held against Johnny, with many viewers expressing that Cely just didn’t know the full story before she forgave him. This kept biting them in the ass over and over again, and even Cely’s family members grilled Johnny with questions upon meeting him on the show. Johnny and Cely then got second place at the finale but kept dating for many months post-show.

Now, Cely Vazquez and Johnny Middlebrooks have unfortunately ended their Love Island USA love affair. In a lengthy statement shared on Twitter (seen below), Cely wrote, “I wanted to share with you that Johnny and I are no longer together.” She then hints at a possible reason why the breakup happened: “Now it’s simply time for each of us to focus on our own personal journey.” Still, Cely asks the Jely fans to keep supporting them as individuals, despite the fact that they are no longer together. On Instagram (also seen below), Johnny first shared Cely’s tweet, then wrote something of his own: “I’m appreciative of the time we spent together on this unforgettable journey. I will forever cherish the fun we had, the laughs we shared, and the memories we created.” Johnny also thanked the fans who have supported their relationship this entire time.

The fans will certainly be disappointed that the Love Island runners-up have broken up, but this is the right decision if they are both going to be better off as individuals. Furthermore, they did have a great story on Love Island USA and post-show. And judging what they’ve said in their statements, they definitely feel grateful for having met each other.

CBS has confirmed that Love Island USA season 3 will happen, but the viewers will probably have to wait until the summer for the series to come back.
