The trailer for Discovery+’s newest dating show Love Off the Gridhas been released, and it looks wild. Discovery+ launched on January 4, 2021, making it a fairly new streaming service. To some people’s surprise, Discovery+ is no stranger to dating shows and even launched with various 90 Day Fiancé spinoffs. The service is also home to not just nature shows but also home improvement series as well as shows like Bobby and Giada in Italy, which saw Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis exploring Italy and making various Italian meals.

Perhaps the dating show Discovery+ is best known for is Naked and Afraid of Love, their twist on the classic show Naked and Afraid. While the original series saw contestants merely trying to survive the wilderness, Naked and Afraid of Love saw them trying to withstand the elements while being paired up on dates all while being naked. The show seemed to be a success with audiences as just a month after its premiere, Discovery+ renewed it for a second season.

Straight on the heels of Naked and Afraid of Love‘s triumph comes a new dating show, Love Off the Grid. The show will take four people who, as the title suggests, have been living off the grid and match them up with four city slickers. Will they find true love and overcome their differences? Or will adapting to life in the wilderness be too much for them to handle? The trailer, which was first revealed by People, suggests a bit of both as city-lover Myesha worries, “Honestly, I love everything about Joe, but I’ve never lived off the grid.” Check out the trailer from Discovery Press below:

The couples will have to exist without plumbing or air conditioning, and given what’s seen in the trailer from Discovery, may even have to catch their own food. One scene sees a rugged man catching frogs while the girls nearby chat nervously. “Have you ever eaten frogs?” one girl asks. “In France,” the other retorts. Another contestant comments on her wild partner going to the bathroom outdoors. “I know he really wants me to do that, but honestly, it just seems really disgusting,” she says with a laugh.

Love Off the Grid is an interesting blend of the survival and romance reality TV genres. It combines this rustic rough reality of the “off the grid” lifestyle with the magic of falling in love. The show will be a huge adjustment to those who are used to modern-day necessities, but if they’re willing to adapt to a new life, they may be rewarded with the love of their life. As one contestant puts it, “You don’t need a whole lot. You just need a whole lot of each other.”

Love Off the Grid premieres January 30 on Discovery+.
