Love, Victor has set a premiere date for season 3, which has been confirmed to be the last for the series. A spin-off of the 2018 film Love, Simon, the series follows Victor (Michael Cimino), a young man discovering his sexuality and the pressures of coming out to his friends and family. Initially developed for Disney+, the studio moved the series to Hulu, premiering it Summer of 2020 when audiences were stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While no metric for viewership was ever released, the series proved to be a hit and Hulu renewed it for season 2 and then for season 3. The series has received positive reviews from critics. However, the series has received some controversy with the casting of a straight actor in the role of a gay character, with star Michael Cimino saying he received death threats for his role in the series. Yet for many Love, Victor has been a significant step forward in seeing a more comprehensive array of sexuality and diversity onscreen and has generated the show a loyal fanbase caught up in the various characters’ stories.

According to THR, Love, Victor season 3 will be the last for the series. The final season will consist of eight episodes and will premiere on Hulu on June 15, 2022. Hulu’s logline for the series details how the last season will show Victor and his friends toward the end of high school and deciding what to do with their futures; Victor will go on a journey of self-discovery — not only deciding who he wants to be with but more broadly, who he wants to be.

The series ending on its third season is not surprising given how many streaming series tend to end after three seasons. The release pattern for Love, Victor season 3 follows those of the previous two seasons premiering in June. Season one premiered on June 17, 2020, while season 2 premiered on June 11, 2021. What is different is Love, Victor season 3 is two episodes shorter than the previous seasons. There was no reason listed for the smaller episode order, yet it appears that the creators likely knew this was the final season and had prepared a proper finale for viewers.

It will be interesting if Love, Victor season 3 continues the pattern of the previous two seasons and brings in Love, Simon characters as guest stars. Simon (Nick Robinson) appeared in voice-over throughout the series and appeared in person in both seasons while Keiynan Lonsdale, Natasha Rothwell, and Josh Duhamel reprised their roles in the series. Many of the actors from Love, Simon like Alexandra Shipp, Katherine Langford, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. have become bigger stars since the film premiered. The movie also featured Jennifer Garner and Tony Hale who could always show up in the final season to help guide Victor, his friends, and family on their paths for the future.
