The good news keeps coming for Lucifer fans, as DB Woodside confirmed he would return for the sixth and final season of the show. His character, the angel Amenadiel, has been one of the most integral parts of the series, serving as Lucifer’s older brother and frequent foil, always trying to bring his younger brother back to Hell in one way or another. His return to the show also comes with another exciting development for the actor.

For the longest time, fans of Lucifer thought the upcoming fifth season of the show would be the last. By the end of May, however, it seemed series star Tom Ellis was gearing up for another run at playing the titular character. By the end of the following month, the show was officially renewed for a sixth season. One of the lingering questions about season 6 pertains to which original cast members will survive season 5.

It looks like Woodside is among those who will be back for season 6. The actor took to Twitter to announce his return to the role of Amenadiel for the last season, a part he’s played since the show’s pilot on Fox in 2015. Woodside also announced he would be stepping behind the camera, directing one of the final season’s episodes. Lucifer season 6 details are still relatively unknown, but Woodside’s return guarantees Amenadiel’s story isn’t coming to an end anytime soon.

Woodside’s announcement was met with celebratory tweets from fans, as well as his fellow cast members. Aimee Garcia, who plays forensic scientist Ella Lopez, wrote, “YAY!!! Congrats @dbwofficial ! Our talented angel will be taking the reins. Can’t wait buddy.” Meanwhile, Lucifer himself also chimed in, tweeting about his excitement to be working with Woodside once again, both as an actor and director.

At this point, Woodside and Ellis are the only two actors officially confirmed to be returning for season 6 of the show. However, Garcia’s tweet does seem to indicate she’s expecting to work with Woodside when he directs an episode. There will undoubtedly be plenty more who join them, but since the first half of season 5 hasn’t even aired yet (it’s coming to Netflix on August 21), it’s not clear if all of the show’s characters will even survive to the final season. Still, it’s a promising sign the brothers will remain together until the end of the road. With any luck – and with Kelly Clarkson’s pleas, perhaps – the rest of the original cast will be back to give Lucifer a fitting end.
