The currently live early access for Madden 22 on Xbox has been extended in response to some technical glitches that have prevented players from fully experiencing the trial. EA Sports’ latest installment in the massively popular sports franchise is set to launch on August 20, just a few days after early access ends.

After a less than ideal launch of Madden 21 last year, EA seems to be putting a bit more care into its product for 2021. The developer has taken a lot of player feedback for Madden 22 in an attempt to better address gamer complaints. Unfortunately, things seem to be off to yet another rocky start due to technical issues, though it does not appear to be a problem across all platforms the game is available for.

Early access for Madden 22 has already launched and promised gamers 10 full hours of playtime before the trial would expire. For EA Play members on Xbox consoles and Game Pass Ultimate members, however, a technical glitch has prevented this by wiping out any remaining trial time whenever a player exits the game. EA and Xbox are attempting to remedy the situation by giving those affected unlimited playtime in early access until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17. MaddenNFLDirect posted a summation of the announcement onto Twitter and the full details can be found on EA Answers HQ.

While this issue is not present across all forms of the early access trial, it does not bode well for Madden 22 especially after the bug-filled launch of its predecessor. The release of Madden 21 was so tumultuous that a large portion of the player base demanded EA drop to property altogether. EA seems to have taken steps to avoid a repeat of this disaster, but it is still fresh enough in player’s minds where it may impact how forgiving they are this time around.

In spite of the massive popularity and revenue that EA Sports titles generate, there is a sizable part of the player base that takes issues with how the games are developed. One of the biggest complaints is that little effort is done to improve these yearly releases in an effort to make as much money as possible by doing the bare minimum. After Madden 21‘s disastrous launch, that line of thinking is likely more prevalent in the Madden community than ever. Hopefully, EA learned from its mistakes for Madden 22 and this Xbox bug is more of a reflection on the hardware rather than the game itself.

Madden NFL 22releases on August 20, 2021, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
