Married at First Sight stars Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner have recently revealed the way they choose to honor their late son Jonathan as the holidays grow nearer. Jamie and Doug first got together in 2014. The two lost their son Jonathan in 2016. Five years later, Jamie and Doug still remember Jonathan and are opening up about how they keep his memory alive.

Jamie and Otis first met on Married at First Sight and were off to a rough start. Eventually, however, the two committed to one another and chose to stay together. In December 2014, Jamie suffered a miscarriage, and the couple grieved the loss of their son Jonathan. Jamie and Doug currently have two children, born in 2017 and 2020. Jamie has been transparent throughout her grieving process, often discussing Jonathan on social media and explaining how the couple misses him. Jamie and Doug as well as their son and daughter have seemed to keep Jonathan in their hearts over the years.

Doug tells US Weekly that the family will be spending the holidays in an RV this year for the very first time. As the holidays approach, Jamie and her family decorate the RV, this year with multiple ornaments of sentimental value. Jamie shares that the family has a special ornament dedicated to Jonathan, a pair of angel wings. “He was our firstborn [who] was too good for earth. So we always have angel wings to put on the tree for Jonathan,” says Doug.

In addition to the family setting aside a space for Jonathan’s angel wings on the tree every year, Jamie explains that the couple goes out of their way to buy Christmas presents for children that are the same age Jonathan would be were he still with Jamie and Doug today. The couple then donates the toys each year. Jamie believes Jonathan is “looking down watching over his little sister and baby brother making sure they’re safe, healthy, and strong.”

Jamie and Doug have had their ups and downs since appearing on Married at First Sight, but there is nothing that could have prepared the two for losing Jonathan. The two have made tremendous strides in their grieving process, and have been incredibly brave in sharing how they keep their son’s memory alive to this day. It is admirable that the couple has chosen to take one of the saddest days of their lives together and turn it into something positive for other young children during the holiday season. While Jamie and Doug still feel sad over the loss, they’ve been incredibly courageous in their extreme honesty about the situation and the effort they put into being good parents to their children Hendrix and Henley.
