The most powerful people in the world of Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic are Dungeon Capturers. They are the warriors who have survived all the perils of a Dungeon and earned the loyalty and power of that Dungeon’s Djinn in return.

One of the powers a Djinn grants their master is the Djinn Equip, which allows the wielder to assume the form and powers of their chosen Djinn. With the variety of Djinn out there, this leads to many striking and unique transformations throughout the show.

10 Dantalion

Despite being second in line to the throne of the militaristic Kou Empire, Ren Koumei prefers napping and tending birds to fighting on the front lines. He does so whenever needed anyway, because his loyalty to his brothers and their cause of uniting the world comes before everything else.

His Djinn, Dantalion, matches his support role perfectly, giving him the ability to teleport anything anywhere. Unlike most of the other characters’ Equip looks, Koumei is draped in a full-body shroud instead. It seems Dantalion is being considerate of her master’s reserved personality and sicklier body.

9 Agares

Ren Kouen, crown prince of the Kou Empire, captured two of his three Dungeons at just sixteen years old. Agares, Djinn of Fortitude and Creation, was one of them. Before Agares became a Djinn, he was a manticore, one of anime’s many anthropomorphic animals, from the world of Alma Torran.

As such, his Djinn Equip gives Kouen similar bestial features, such as a huge clawed arm and a sharp tail. Perhaps it is reflecting the boy Kouen was when Agares first met him and may still see him as, because taking this form turns Kouen much shorter and visibly more childlike.

8 Kassim

Not all Djinn Equips are achieved by capturing a Dungeon. Those who fall into depravity, forsaking their destinies and turning their Rukh from white to black, can summon a Dark Djinn by stabbing themselves with a Dark Metal Vessel. This act of desperate hatred often costs the user their life.

During the final battle between Alibaba and his adoptive older brother Kassim, who have one of the best sibling rivalries in anime, Kassim transforms into a Dark Djinn, becoming a hulking monster with huge claws, sharp fangs, and batlike wings. In this form, he cannot be defeated until Alibaba ventures into Kassim’s Rukh itself.

7 Valefor

Most Dungeon Capturers clear only one or two dungeons, but for Sinbad, king of Sindria, that was nowhere near enough. He made himself the most famous Dungeon Capturer in the world by clearing seven dungeons, at which point the Djinn told him that enough was enough and he was barred from capturing any more.

Sinbad still has plenty of forms to choose from, including Valefor, the Djinn of Falsehood and Prestige. Equipping Valefor gives Sinbad the form of a many-tailed fox, with thick fur white as snow to match his ice powers. He gains large pointy ears and, among his jewelry, a gold fox-head accessory hangs around his waist.

6 Amon

When fierce and fiery protagonist Alibaba Saluja clears his Dungeon in the episode “Magician of Creation”, he obtains a Djinn to match: Amon, the Djinn of Politeness and Austerity. Alibaba gains the power to conjure and manipulate flames, and though it takes him a while to master the Djinn Equip, when he does he acquires a flashy look to show off in battle.

Amon’s Djinn Equip gives Alibaba a long mane of golden hair, and summons rings of fire around him. Gold ornamentation hanging on red rope adorns his bare chest, and his arms and legs are protected by bronze armor that glows orange with the intense heat of his body.

5 Vinea

While it can be easy to forget due to her young age, Ren Kougyoku can be just as cold-blooded as her older brothers when she wants to be. This, coupled with the thirst to prove herself after a childhood of neglect, means there could be no better fitting Djinn for her than Vinea, Djinn of Sorrow and Isolation.

As seen in the episode “Journey,” equipping Vinea allows Kougyoku to take on the form of a sea serpent. Her red hair turns blue, and she gains blue scales on her body and fins on her legs and arms. Her skirt flares out in a way that also resembles a sheer fin or sheet of water.

4 Paimon

One of the many strong female characters featured in Magi, Ren Hakuei shares her family’s dream of uniting the world under Kou’s banner, although she prefers to do this through diplomacy instead of bloodshed whenever possible. Fittingly, she partnered with Paimon, the Djinn of Maniacal Love and Chaos.

When she uses Djinn Equip, Hakuei dons white and gold armor and her hair turns silver, evoking the whirlwinds she summons with Paimon’s wind-based powers. White feathers matching her fan sprout from her arms, legs, and temples, which only intensifies the image of her as a powerful being of the air.

3 Zagan

Like his relatives, Ren Hakuryuu is a skilled warrior. However, he trains not to conquer nations, but to take revenge on the mother who had his brothers murdered and the cousins he blames for letting her get away with it. His contempt for the world is shared by Zagan, Djinn of Loyalty and Purity, who chooses Hakuryuu to wield his power.

Hakuryuu takes well to Zagan’s Djinn Equip, which outfits him in deep black with white accents, matching the color scheme of his partner Judal, one of Ryohei Kimura’s best characters. A long plantlike protrusion arcs from his back, his limbs are protected by spines and shields, and he gains markings like creeping vines under his newly red eyes.

2 Astaroth

Astaroth, Djinn of Terror and Meditations, is Kouen’s strongest offensive Djinn Equip. Like Amon, he grants Kouen fire-based powers. But much to Alibaba’s chagrin, Kouen doesn’t just summon waves of orange flame, but dragons of white fire that destroy everything in their path, burning eternally until Kouen orders them to vanish.

This Equip turns Kouen’s hair into long, writhing orange tentacles, evoking Astaroth’s Gorgon form, complete with a snakelike necklace. It gives him scales on his arms, but not much else from the waist up, showing off not only powerful muscles but a new sun tattoo on his stomach.

1 Baal

Baal was the first Dungeon Sinbad captured at the age of fourteen, and even as an adult it is still one of Sinbad’s go-to Equips. In addition to its powerful lightning-based abilities, which more than live up to Baal’s title of Djinn of Wrath and Heroes, it decks Sinbad out in the coolest outfit of all the Djinn Equips.

Simply put, Baal turns his master into a dragon. Sinbad gains a full-body coat of blue scales, which protect him like armor, a gold headpiece resembling horns, and best of all, a massive swinging tail. As he demonstrates in the episode “Smile,” when Sinbad equips Baal, he gains not only great destructive power but an intimidating look to match.
