Five of the Bob Ross-inspired land cards announced last month for Magic: The Gathering Arena are now available free of charge, and will remain so until December 14. Such content is part of the Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drops, with this particular Bob Ross-inspired drop taking on the title of Happy Little Gathering.

Interestingly, the Secret Lair concept itself is a rather contentious one amongst fans. Magic: The Gathering’s publisher, Wizards of the Coast, has put said concept to use in an effort to push more themed products to its players. Evidenced by the latest Bob Ross-related news, players are treated to a freebie or two every so often. Of course, other types of expansions continue to roll out, too.

Until December 14, Magic: The Gathering Arena players will be able to grab five Bob Ross painting cards free of charge. The official MTG Arena page on Twitter shared the land codes, which give players access to one card each of plains, islands, swamps, mountains, and forests. In order to redeem the codes for the Bob Ross Basic Lands, players should visit MTG Arena’s in-game “Store” tab, then simply copy and paste each code into the space at the top-right of the page. Should users run into any trouble, it would be best to make sure the codes are being typed in all caps. The codes for the Bob Ross Magic set include, Plains: DELIGHTFULMEADOW; Island: ISLANDWILDERNESS; Swamp: HAPPYSWAMP; Mountain: MOVEMOUNTAINS; and Forest: TREEFRIEND.

Wizards of the Coast launched Magic: The Gathering Arena in September 2018, bringing Magic: The Gathering to the digital space via free-to-play offerings. Since then, the experience has undergone varying degrees of success, with a few stumbles along the way, as is the case with most major free-to-play endeavors. 2020, of course, has not made things any easier, given pandemic-related woes that continue to plague the work and lives of most.

Due to COVID-19, Magic: The Gathering as a whole took quite a few hits this year, specifically with regards to the Jumpstart delay and the game’s competitive nature. The status of Magic: The Gathering Arena has endured a lot in its own right, too. Back in February, Wizards of the Coast announced plans to unleash a mobile version of Magic The Gathering: Arena later in the year. Now, such a release is on track for an unspecified date during the early part of next year. When more news on this front will surface currently remains to be seen.
