Reality shows often have the talent to draw many people in. One of the reasons for this is that they allow the audience to get a glimpse into the lives of others – lives that might be very different from their own. The new Netflix reality show Marriage or Mortgage does the exact same thing, and it offers a huge dilemma on top of it all – will the couples appearing in the show choose their dream wedding or a dream home?

With the first season of the show now over, a lot of people took to Twitter to voice their opinion on what they see in Marriage or Mortgage. And in true Twitter fashion, the reactions were nothing short of hilarious.

10 Makes No Sense

Some members of the audience felt that the couples on the show made questionable decisions. Mariah Berry was one of them. Berry was quick to point out that when a couple had the chance to get their dream house under their budget and with free appliances, they said no… because of a ranch fountain.

It must take a lot of love for ranch fountains to turn down a dream home because of it. Especially since the ranch fountain wouldn’t go anywhere, unlike the house that won’t be on the market forever.

9 Honoring The Fallen

Both the realtor Nichole and the wedding planner Sarah who competed against each other weren’t afraid to use the couple’s emotional and/or sad past to win the round. But sometimes they took it a step too far and it didn’t even make sense. Like that time the wedding planner chose to release doves to represent someone who died. Did the late person even like doves?

Unclear. The Twitter user CT Pizza Defense Patrol noticed this strange trend and composed an ironic tweet full of dark humor. Who knows, maybe if there’s ever a second season of the show, something like this might actually happen.

8 It’s Called Emotional Blackmail

Speaking of using the couple’s late loved ones against them, someone might call it emotional blackmail. But supposedly since the realtor and the wedding planner were throwing all the perks in to help the couples, then it’s alright…maybe.

The Twitter user Generic Moon Tattoo noticed how excited Nichole and Sarah were every time they discovered someone from the couple’s families died because they knew it might give them an extra edge in the competition. While they might not have looked as happy as Mr. Burns in this picture, it was close enough.

7 The Irony Of Life

Some of the couples on the show who chose a luxurious, big wedding for 30 thousand dollars, give or take, then had to cut down the number of guests because of the coronavirus pandemic.

So in the end, their dream wedding was suddenly a much smaller affair. Had they known this in advance, some of them might have chosen to put their money into buying a house instead. Talk about the irony of life.

6 The Smartest Decision

Emmelie de la Cruz should be a contestant in the future season of Marriage or Mortgage. The reason is that, unlike the show’s previous contestants, Emmelie realized one simple fact.

There’d be nothing easier than to buy a house and then use it to hold a much cheaper wedding thanks to all the extra perks Sarah would get for the couple. That’s being clever right there.

5 So Done With This

It’s easy to imagine user Sadé rolling their eyes. Most of the couples on the show chose to put their hard-earned money into a wedding… because they wanted a wedding. Putting the money into their house would be a much more practical decision in the long run, but the couples wanted a wedding, so they got it.

Even if it meant they would continue to live in tiny places with other people. Someone might approve of these decisions but Sadé, judging by their reaction, was very much done with this.

4 Why So Expensive?

People from other countries have a problem understanding why anyone would put so much money into a wedding. To put it in perspective – a house is often forever, as long as the couple lives. And their children can sometimes live in it even after their parents die.

On the other hand, if someone puts 40 thousand dollars into a wedding, that means spending 40 thousand dollars in a single day. A lot of people don’t even make that much money in a year so it makes sense that this user wondered why would anyone do something like this.

3 The Poor Realtor

In the show, the realtor Nichole came across as someone who’s used to seeing people make wise and often not-so-wise financial decisions. The user Mermaid felt sorry for Nichole for having to watch both young and older couples throw out their money for a single day so that they would have nice pictures and could celebrate their love publicly.

There are plenty of ways people can celebrate their love and they don’t even need an ultra-expensive wedding to do it but each to their own, or so they say.

2 Nothing Beats Living With Parents

A young couple on the show chose to continue living with their parents in order to have a big wedding. So even when they get married, they still won’t be able to start a new life together because they have nowhere to live other than at their parents’ house.

User Tee noticed the irony and wasn’t afraid to point it out online. The only possible explanation is that the couple is extremely attached to their parents.

1 The Content The Fans Hoped For

One of the best things about the show was that it featured love in all its forms – young people, older couples, various ethnicities, and, of course, orientations as well.

This couple dreamt about having a big, fat, gay wedding and this user loved it. So in the end, not only was the couple happy but so were members of the audience due to the great representation on the show.
