Marriage or Mortgage is the latest reality show to take Netflix by storm, like Bling Empire, which was renewed for another season. It may appear to be wholesome on the surface, but underneath is the stark reality that the U.S. economy often does not allow couples to have both a wedding and a house. Despite this realization, many have been able to work with what they have and choose between a dream wedding or a dream house.

The show premiered at the perfect time as many people are gearing to re-enter society. Some couples’ plans were put on the backburner due to the pandemic, so this show may begin rousing people to blow off the dust and start planning their wedding or buying a house. The couples on the show are so beautifully in love that it is easy to get lost in the show. They have excellent guides helping them as well in the form of Nichole Holmes, the real-estate agent, and Sarah Miller, the wedding planner.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

One thing viewers have been curious about is where and when the show was filmed. According to Women’s Health, co-host wedding advocate Sarah Miller said filming started end of 2019 and wrapped in 2020. But production was lucky as they wrapped filming before COVID-19 regulations became strict. The show’s location in Nashville, Tenn., is ideal because of the expensive housing market, which pushes clients to move toward buying rather than renting.

Sarah said she had to work a lot of things around due to the pandemic and said, “Every single vendor had to follow protocols—masks, sanitizing, all of that kind of stuff. Safety was first, 100 percent.” She went on to discuss that couples who had chosen houses did not have too much change for them, although Nichole said she had to place precautions when showing houses. Nichole is not one for weddings, as she regrets her first extravagant wedding, which ended within six years.

At the end of the day, the choice lies with the clients. Nichole has even spoken out about how surprising some choices the couples made were to her. The market has been hit hard by the market, and Nichole said their inventory is low, but they are hoping when things begin to open up again, the market will pick back up.
