Pregnancy rumors have haunted Chris and Paige ever since they said their vows on season 12 of Married at First Sight. Now, a new teaser for episode 5 of the hit matchmaking series has finally set the record straight on the unprecedented pregnancy drama.

Chris, a financial manager, and Paige, an accountant and realtor, were matched by the Married at First Sight experts because of their religious and family values. However, the pair ran into difficulties on their first day of marriage when Chris admitted to Paige that he did not find her attractive even though he had initiated sex with her. The show had also been teasing a pregnancy storyline surrounding Paige and Chris’ marriage, with some fans speculating that his very recent ex-fiancée was the one who was expecting.

In a teaser for episode 5, Chris finally admits that his ex-fiancée is pregnant. In the history of the Married at First Sight franchise, no newlywed has ever entered their marriage while expecting a baby with a former partner. The video shows Paige’s shocked reaction and her statement that she’ll “probably have to walk away.” Chris and Paige then tell the rest of the season 12 couples, who are all in Las Vegas for their honeymoons, about the explosive news. The clip ends with Chris getting up from the group and leaving before breaking down into tears.

In addition to the damage it will certainly do to Chris and Paige’s marriage, the pregnancy news threatens to destroy Chris and Paige’s relationships with their fellow season 12 cast members. “The situation is horrible. I’m heartbroken for her and I’m angry at him,” said fellow season 12 bride Clara, who unequivocally sided with Paige during the controversy. Chris then took issue with how Virginia and Erik reacted to the news. “It’s for sure yours?” asked bride Virginia when she heard that news that Chris’ fiancée was pregnant. “The question was actually disrespectful,” said Chris in an interview. “If you want this person right here,” Erik added, pointing to Paige, “you’d better start focusing on that right now.”

Even though the rumors about Chris’ ex’s pregnancy have been confirmed, the revelation leads to several new questions about the timeline of the situation. Did Chris know about the pregnancy before he said his vows or was he blindsided by the news after the fact? Were Chris and his ex-fiancée still romantically and sexually involved while he was going through the Married at First Sight casting process? Will Paige decide to leave her new husband or try to stick it out for the sake of her marriage? More information will be revealed on episode 5, airing this Wednesday night on Lifetime.
