Before Jamie Otis said “I do” on Married at First Sight, she tried to find love on another hit reality show: The Bachelor. Here’s everything to know about Jamie’s appearance on Ben Flajnik’s season of The Bachelor and why she’d never go on the show again.

Reality fans best know Jamie from her appearance on the very first season of Married at First Sight, the controversial Lifetime matchmaking show that pairs singles in a legally-binding marriage before they’ve ever met in person. Jamie married Doug Hehner on the show, and despite some initial bumps in the road, the pair has remained married ever since.

But before meeting her future husband on Married at First Sight, Jamie was cast on The Bachelor to date winemaker Ben Flajnik. As told to The Knot, her experience on the show was anything but rosy. She said she realized that Bachelor Ben wasn’t the one when he complained about the food provided by their local hosts in Panama. Jamie also had trouble connecting with the other contestants vying for Ben’s heart, but actually became friends with Courtney Robertson, the season’s villain and recipient of Ben’s final rose. Jamie suspected that the producers were keeping her around because they hoped she would disclose the story of her traumatic childhood on air. In a last-ditch effort to make a connection with Ben, Jamie attempted to initiate a make-out with him, resulting in one of the most awkward kisses in Bachelor history. Ben eliminated her shortly afterward.

Even though she didn’t end up with Ben, Jamie decided to give the franchise another chance and was cast on season 3 of Bachelor Pad, a now-defunct Bachelor spin-off. On Bachelor Pad, former Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants form teams of two compete for a cash prize while avoiding elimination at the hands of their fellow housemates. There, she briefly dated Chris Bukowski, who hooked up with Jamie and multiple other contestants. Jamie was voted out by her fellow contestants on episode 4.

Even though she didn’t find love on The Bachelor, her reality TV experiences ultimately led her to her husband. Jamie and Doug have been happily married for seven years and are the proud parents of daughter Henley and son Hendrix. The pair frequently returns to Married at First Sight to host specials and let fans into their lives through their podcast, YouTube channel, and social media accounts. Jamie has proved that finding love on reality television is possible…it just might take a few tries.
