Last week, Mark Maher enlisted Chris Collette on Married At First Sight to help him find his wife Lindsey Georgoulis a gift, and Chris not only showed up but also showed out. Chris had a tough start on his MAFS journey when his wife Alyssa Ellman gave him the cold shoulder on their wedding night. While Alyssa almost refused to be in the same room as Chris, who was clearly checked out from the beginning, he tried his best to be respectful and give her time. Many thought Chris was Alyssa’s perfect adversary. When it became apparent that Alyssa was more interested in the perks of the show than Chris, he finally stood up for himself and ended the brief marriage.

All of this turmoil with Alyssa didn’t stop Chris from winning over Mark and Lindsey. Over the course of Chris’ messy relationship with Alyssa, Mark and Lindsey often jumped to his defense on the show and during Married At First Sight: The After Party. Alyssa and Chris stopped filming early on MAFS season 14, but that didn’t stop his friendship with Mark. In episode 11, Mark wanted to course-correct with Lindsey and take a positive step with her.

After visiting Lindsey’s apartment, Mark knew that she was a big fan of plants and all things earthy. Some thought Mark gave up on Lindsey, but he seemed determined to try anyway. So, he invited Chris to the Seed To Stem Boutique to find Lindsey the perfect gift for their one-month anniversary. Mark told Chris, “He always puts me in a good mood because he’s like one of the first guys I met and someone I connected with. It’s like your best friend in first grade, and you’re like, ‘What do you want to do today?'” From candles and crystals to clamshells and ferns, he found the perfect hipster products that would rock Lindsey’s world. Chris was a frequent visitor and had brought Mark to the right place. Chris joked, “Have you considered matching wolves?” pointing to a taxidermied pair. Mark answered, “I mean, if there were two cats that were like that.”

Throughout Chris’s issues with Alyssa, he showed himself to be a thoughtful and patient man who was capable of paying attention to her needs. He exhibited all these skills during his shopping adventure with Mark. The men decided on some crystals that promoted peaceful energy and decision making but opted against those stimulating libido as Lindsey’s made clear she is all good in that department. They then picked out a hanging terrarium for the crystals and plants. Chris also gave Mark space to discuss his relationship and how they’d progressed. He asked, “How do you feel emotionally going into the weekend?” Mark admitted he wasn’t ready for love but aimed to be true to Lindsey and to himself.

For MAFS fans who had little patience for Alyssa, it was refreshing to see Chris return under happier circumstances and without Alyssa and her apparent victim complex. He showed himself not only to be a good friend but someone with emotional intelligence who cares deeply about people and knows how to woo a woman’s heart. Chris’ Married At First Sightjourney didn’t end how he’d hoped, but if fans are lucky, he’ll return again as a friend of the show.
