Married at First Sight: Why Fans Think Olivia & Brett Were Always Doomed

Fans are split over whether Olivia Cornu and Brett Lindsey were doomed from the start when it came to their Married at First Sight relationship. The show sells the idea that happy endings are possible, but this pair has fans questioning if a happily ever after is part of their future. Some believe Olivia wasn’t ready for the commitment that came with marriage, while others say they simply weren’t a good match, and nothing would have helped that.

Olivia and Brett are one of the couples on Married At First Sight season 11. They made quite a stir, as their personalities seemed incompatible despite a mutual Lousiana background. Brett didn’t seem serious about the commitment, and Olivia was inflexible and unwilling to compromise. Not only that, Brett asked Olivia’s sister if she was single, which made for an awful first impression full of red flags. Brett also seems to be jealous of Olivia earning more than him as a nurse practitioner. Their marriage is well on the way to splitsville, showing that at some point their quirky differences were too much to handle. Olivia said back in the September 30 episode that she doesn’t trust Brett, which leaves little hope for a solid relationship.

A marriage counseling session aired on September 23 revealed most of Brett and Olivia’s issues with each other. Fans aren’t sure which member of the couple caused the end of their relationship, or if both were to blame. Brett is too sarcastic for Olivia’s tastes, and she isn’t willing to show public displays of affection to his liking. He says he wants kisses and cuddles, but she’s not into it – at least not where people can see them. As a result, they’re unable to explore if they are physically compatible. The pair also disagrees about having kids, with Olivia being unsure if she wants them at this point in her life and Brett showing enthusiasm for the idea. When Olivia tries to say that Brett is too sarcastic for her liking and she can’t tell when he is being serious, Brett calls her insecure.

Some fans believe Olivia is being too inflexible about the relationship. She doesn’t seem to be ready for the compromises marriage involves. This includes how you act around your partner, who does the chores, and how you prepare for the future. Other fans point out that Brett is condescending, arrogant, and insensitive. On the surface, he seems to be gaslighting his new wife when addressing her worries. Some fans even believe he truly hates Olivia, which is why he wants to hit on other women while they’re married. If his wife is worried about his mean remarks, he should reassure her that he doesn’t mean it, but he doesn’t seem interested in assuaging her fears.

Of course, in a relationship, it takes two to tango. It could simply be that Brett is a sarcastic womanizer who doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut. Still, Olivia is standing firm on what she believes a relationship involves. If Brett can’t respect her feelings, Olivia deserves better than him. Either way, this was obviously a bad match that was never going to end well.
