Picking out the perfect villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is no easy task, with its 393 different choices to sort through. Hunting for a specific character is also limited by which villagers spawn on mystery islands, unless a player is willing to pay a hefty price on Nookazon or has a friend getting rid of a villager they hope to invite. While there are plenty of sought-after villagers, a few popular contenders – most notably Raymond the cat and Marshal the squirrel – could be worth the price in Bells to some Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans, even if their cost is in the millions.

Raymond and Marshal currently top the list for the most sought-after of Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers. Interestingly, these two are similar in many ways. Both villagers possess a Smug personality type. Smug villagers are polite, easy to get along with, and occasionally aloof or arrogant. Both Raymond and Marshal also possess neutral designs, lacking bright colors or odd outfits. These qualities allow them to appeal to a large audience.

Ramond and Marshal both have their own distinct details, too. Raymond was first introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, making him a very new character compared to villagers like Marshal. He also has a unique design, with thick, plastic glasses and heterochromatic brown and green eyes. His home looks like a personal office, as he is a work-focused character. He is also a cat, which remains the most plentiful species in Animal Crossing, as well as one of the most popular.

Marshal Has Been In More Animal Crossing Games Than Raymond

Marshal, meanwhile, has been in several Animal Crossing games, from his debut in New Leaf to his appearances in Pocket Camp and New Horizons. His vest and cool, hooded eyes are offset by the pink blush on his cheeks. However, he has trailed behind Raymond in popularity, priced at a million Bells less on Nookazon. This could be due to many reasons, including his species, as squirrels aren’t as popular as cats. Marshal does have a cozier house design than Raymond, however, with his home feeling more like a coffee bar than a bedroom. The interior is pleasant in comparison to Raymond’s office.

Picking who the better Animal Crossing villager is comes down to personal taste. For players who don’t like the workaholic nature of Raymond or feel he can be arrogant, the cool personality of Marshal could be a better fit. For those wanting someone more serious, Raymond may be the choice. With both characters having such similar traits, though, it could simply be species and design aesthetics that draw most players to one over the other. Either way, both characters can be interesting additions to an Animal Crossing: New Horizons island.
