Warning! Spoilers for Thor #20 by Marvel Comics

A key hero from Avengers: Infinity War has fallen as Thor just discovered one of his key allies from the Ten Realms, Eitri, was murdered. In a new preview for Thor #20, the Dwarf King and expert forger is found among the rubble on Nidavellir. In response, Thor promises to avenge Eitri, who was responsible for crafting some of his greatest weapons, as well as the Infinity Gauntlet and Stormbreaker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Eitri hails from Nidavellir, the homeworld of the dwarves, where he ruled as king. He first appeared in Thor Annual #5 and was co-created by Alan Zelenetz and Bob Hall. The thousands-year-old dwarf helped create some of the greatest weapons Asgard, and the rest of the Ten Realms has ever known. Eitri made his live-action debut in Avengers: Infinity War (played by Peter Dinklage), where he was a giant-sized dwarf who watched Thanos slaughter the entire population of Nidavellir and cast his arms in metal so he couldn’t build anyone else a weapon. Eitri was critical in helping Thor reignite his forge and build his new hammer, Stormbreaker.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a brand new preview for the upcoming Thor #20 by Donny Cates, Nic Klein, Matt Wilson, and VC’s Joe Sabino (H/T CBR.com), the All-Father and Odin navigate through the destruction of Nidavellir. Thor initially arrived in the realm to seek answers for the ‘God of Hammers’ prophecy. Instead, he found the dwarves, including Eitri, were brutally murdered by someone with his missing hamner, Mjolnir.

Thor is understandably devastated by Eitri’s death. As he lowers his body into the ground, the King of Asgard promises to avenge the death of the King of Dwarves responsible for birthing Mjolnir from Uru. Thor sits on his knees and longingly stares as Eitri is put to rest, as Odin tells him “that’s enough” and that a “king cannot rule from his knees, boy.” While Odin is being harsh, the former All-Father knows time is of the essence, especially if someone is controlling Mjolnir and causing destruction with it across the Ten Realms.

Thor and Odin are about to find out what is causing Mjolnir to rampage across the Ten Realms and whether the ‘God of Hammers’ prophecy is coming true right before his eyes. If Thor wasn’t worried before, seeing the damage done to Nidavellir (much like how Thanos ravaged it in Avengers: Infinity War) and Eitri among its victims has made his quest somehow even more personal. Thor#20 by Marvel Comics is in stores Wednesday.
