Warning: spoilers ahead for Venom #200!

In Marvel’s landmark 200th issue of Venom, it’s been confirmed that Eddie Brock’s other is the most powerful symbiote in the Marvel Universe. After the defeat of Knull the Symbiote God, Eddie Brock is now the new King in Black, controlling vast legions of symbiotes all over the galaxy. There’s only one symbiote he can’t control like the others, and it’s the one that’s been by his side the longest. Now, Eddie and Venom have a new mission and purpose in the Marvel Universe, and it’s one that will see Venom getting the chance to continually prove his new status as “the most powerful symbiote in the galaxy.”

At the end of King in Black, the command of the symbiote hive mind fell to Eddie, making him the new King in Black. Now, Venom #200 from Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, and an array of celebrated guest artists, sees Eddie’s new status quo connected to the hive mind, allowing him to lead and guide the countless symbiotes present all across the galaxy. With their power, Eddie is now able to be omnipresent, witnessing the furthest reaches of space while simultaneously grabbing lunch with Spider-Man and warning Marvel’s various hero teams about incoming threats all at the same time.

However, Eddie is also a stay-at-home dad in spite of all his power, taking care of his son Dylan with the help of his original symbiote. Interestingly enough, because Eddie freed his other from the hive mind’s control during King in Black, Venom is actually a unique specimen in the whole of the galaxy. Unlike any other symbiote, Venom can’t be controlled or tracked by the new King in Black, and Eddie Brock actually identifies his other as the most powerful symbiote in the galaxy given his newfound independence.

Despite Venom’s freedom to do as he wishes, he’s chosen to remain loyal to Eddie and help keep Dylan safe and protected. However, this actually leads to Dylan bonding with Eddie’s other by the issue’s end, becoming a brand new version of Venom with Eddie’s blessing. Dylan Brock is a lot like Peter Parker when he first started out as Spider-Man, going to school while superhero-ing after class. It will be interesting to see how the new Venom operates in the future, especially given Eddie’s inability to control them. While Venom may be loyal now, is there a chance he could ally himself more with Dylan if Eddie’s teenage son decides to become rebellious?

Venom is in a unique position in more ways than one as the symbiote enters a new era of adventure in the Marvel Universe with a new host and likely surprising new powers. As Marvel fans know, being the most powerful comes with inherent responsibility, so it will be interesting to see how Dylan’s Venom is mentored by his father, who himself went through a complicated and wild ride to become the hero he is today in Marvel Comics.
