Marvel has officially confirmed that the toaster featured in WandaVision‘s included an Avengers: Age of Ultron Easter egg. As the first Disney+ TV show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans didn’t really know what to expect from the Scarlet Witch and Vision series. Due to delays to the entirety of Phase 4 caused by the pandemic, WandaVision ended up being the first MCU property released in over a year and a half. The end result was the show becoming a huge hit for Marvel Studios, as theories, speculation, Easter eggs, and Mephisto drove plenty of online conversations.

Since WandaVision emulated different eras of TV sitcoms in each episode, one of the surprising elements of the series was the inclusion of fake commercials. Audiences were introduced to this concept in episode 1 as a fake commercial played for a Stark Industries Toast-Mate 2000. WandaVision‘s toaster sparked a lot of theories right away. Viewers began to believe that the commercials and the products they sold tied directly into Wanda Maximoff’s past, while some theories suggested the adults in it were actually her parents. Once it was revealed the WandaVision commercials were also creations of Wanda’s Hex reality, it became clear that they were pulling from her memories in some capacity to make up the TV edit of her life.

The WandaVision commercials referenced a variety of important moments from Wanda’s past, and there were initial questions about the nature of the toaster. Despite the black-and-white style of the commercial, the WandaVision toaster noticeably featured a red blinking light when it was “cooking.” This led to theories that the light was meant to represent the Stark bomb referenced in Avengers: Age of Ultron that Wanda and Pietro thought was going to kill them. Thanks to the release of Marvel’s Art of WandaVision book, prop master Russell Bobbit confirmed this Avengers: Age of Ultron Easter egg was intentional. The book reads, “What people may or may not know is that we added that blinking light in the middle to mirror the bomb in Sokovia.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron was the first MCU property to reference the blinking light that would then influence the design of WandaVision‘s toaster. Wanda recalled that she and Pietro waited in the wreckage of their Sokovian home for the second Stark bomb to explode and kill them. The red flashing light of WandaVision‘s toaster immediately seemed similar to the blinking light commonly associated with bombs, including ones made by Stark Industries that the MCU previously featured.

The confirmation of WandaVision‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron toaster Easter egg comes after the show further strengthened the theory. WandaVision episode 8 included flashbacks/memories of Wanda’s past, such as when the Stark bomb hit. This allowed the MCU to show the red light on the bomb and make the Avengers: Age of Ultron connection to the toaster more clear. Of course, these memories also suggest Wanda may have used her Chaos Magic powers as a child to keep the bomb from exploding. In any case, viewers no longer need to question whether or not WandaVision‘s toaster included an Avengers: Age of Ultron Easter egg, because it officially does.
