Following Morbius latest delay, fans are expressing hope that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man can be added to the movie somehow. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius is slated to be the next installment in Sony’s budding Marvel universe, which already holds two Venom movies. The latest film stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, a brilliant scientist with a rare blood disease. His latest experiment to find a cure goes awry and gives him a special form of vampirism. Morbius has been a bit unlucky in the lead-up to its release, as it has been delayed numerous times by the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this week, it moved from January to April.

While Morbius is struggling to find its footing, Sony is still reaping the benefits of its latest collaboration with Marvel Studios, Spider-Man: No Way Home. The multiversal adventure arrived in theaters in mid-December and was immediately greeted with overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans. The returns of past Spider-Man actors have received a great deal of praise, particularly when it comes to Andrew Garfield. He got a chance at redemption with No Way Home, and since its release, many online have been clamoring for a new Amazing Spider-Man project with Garfield at the lead.

Now the news that Morbius has been pushed back three months has led some to believe Garfield stands a chance of appearing in the film. Fans took to social media late on Monday to share their hopes that Sony will add an extra scene with Garfield’s Spider-Man, either as a credits scene or a tease within the movie. You can see a sampling of their thoughts down below.

It is worth mentioning that there are no credible sources suggesting Morbius has been delayed purely so a Garfield cameo can be added in. All signs point to Sony delaying the movie due to the rising Covid cases; the Omicron variant has once again put the stability of the box office into question. Spider-Man: No Way Home has found immense success over the past few weeks, becoming the first Hollywood film of the pandemic to hit $1 billion worldwide. However, that movie is very much the exception and not the rule, as no other film has come even close to that.

Despite both movies being made by Sony and holding Spider-Man ties, Morbius and No Way Home are at vastly different places when it comes to public perception. The former exists purely within Sony’s Marvel universe and revolves around a lesser-known character, while the latter has the backing of the MCU and numerous fan-favorite characters. Therefore, it’s smarter for Sony to wait until the box office is a bit more stable to release Morbius It’s easy to assume Sony wants to bring Garfield back into the fold after the success of No Way Home, but many of the fans calling for such a thing to happen haven’t fully considered the logistical aspects of this. Morbius likely was not delayed for the sole purpose of adding Garfield, though fans will have to wait until April to find out for sure.
