The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel announces a major change to its release schedule for season 4. From the mind of Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2017 and quickly became one of the streaming service’s flagship series and proved to be a frequent Emmy favorite. The show first announced its presence at the 2018 Emmy Awards, where it won eight of the highly-coveted prizes. To date, the series has won a total of 20 Emmys.

Set during the 1960s, Mrs. Maisel stars Rachel Brosnahan as its titular Miriam “Midge” Maisel who begins the series as a middling housewife but soon discovers she has an incredible knack for stand-up comedy. Later episodes and seasons explore her divorce from her husband of four years, Joel (Michael Zegen), and Midge’s attempt to pursue a career as a comic. Alex Borstein stars as Susie Myerson, her manager and an employee of The Gaslight Cafe. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also stars Marin Hinkle, Tony Shalhoub, Kevin Pollak, Caroline Aaron, and Jane Lynch.

Now, Amazon Prime Video has announced that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will return for a fourth season on February 18, per TV Line. For the first time in the show’s history, episodes will premiere on a weekly basis instead of the entire season dropping at once. Season 4 will spread its 8 episodes out over the course of four weeks with two episodes streaming every Friday beginning following the premiere date.

This is surely an exciting update for Mrs. Maisel fans who have been eagerly awaiting news of season 4’s release date. It’s been more than two years since viewers last saw Midge during season 3’s finale way back in December of 2019. That episode saw Midge being fired from Shy Baldwin’s tour for being too frank about his sexuality during her set. In a trailer for Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4, Midge struggles to find another act as the headliner. Longtime Sherman-Palladino followers also have the appearance of Gilmore Girls alum Kelly Bishop and Milo Ventimiglia to look forward to.

The change to the release schedule’s structure is notable. While a service like Netflix oftentimes drops an entire season’s worth of episodes at once, allowing viewers to binge-watch, the weekly release format has been picking up steam with other streaming services, evidenced by the recent change made by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Now that two episodes will premiere on February 18, fans will be able to enjoy and discuss Midge’s escapades on a week-by-week basis.
