Black Panther’s suit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, famously worn by the late Chadwick Boseman, has been added to Marvel’s Avengers. The superhero slugfest, developed by Crystal Dynamics, includes a variety of cosmetic items for each of its playable heroes. Serving as the king and protector of the advanced African nation of Wakanda, Black Panther was added to Marvel’s Avengers in the recent “War for Wakanda” expansion.

As the game’s latest and largest update to date, “War for Wakanda” added an abundance of new content to Marvel’s Avengers. The expansion’s story brings the Avengers to Wakanda, a lush and powerful country closed off from the rest of the world. Playable areas within Wakanda’s jungle, and a player base located in the nation’s capital, are gorgeous and unique. Wakanda’s King T’Challa, under his superpowered alias of Black Panther, was added to the game’s growing roster of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Throughout the “War for Wakanda” campaign players are faced with enemies that are new to Marvel’s Avengers. A new enemy faction, the Klaue Company, utilizes unique mechanics to face off against the superhero stars. Two classic Marvel Comics villains, Ulysses Klaue and Crossbones, act as boss battles during the storyline.

The Marvel’s Avengers Twitter page has revealed that a new cosmetic item for Black Panther will allow him to don the hero’s iconic outfit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character’s MCU adaptation was portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, who tragically died of colon cancer more than one year ago. The live-action suit recently added to Marvel’s Avengers reflects T’Challa’s appearance in his 2018 solo film, Black Panther, as well as the crossover films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Boseman’s portrayal of the character wore an additional live-action outfit in Captain America: Civil War, which is distinct from the costume added to the game.

Marvel’s Avengers launched without any costumes based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so these recognizable appearances were quickly and frequently requested by players. Crystal Dynamics eventually met players’ demands, releasing a number of outfits based on each Avenger’s appearance in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Additional MCU outfits have since been added, such as Black Widow’s appearance in her recently-released solo film and Captain America’s suit from the first Avengers film. With the popularity of the MCU and its character designs, it seems logical that even more live-action costumes will be added to Marvel’s Avengers in the future.

Chadwick Boseman’s portray of Black Panther throughout the MCU has been highly acclaimed, due to both the actor’s performance and the character’s cultural relevance. With the recent one-year anniversary of Boseman’s passing, it seems appropriate that T’Challa’s live-action outfit should be added to Marvel’s Avengers. While players are expected to pay for the cosmetic item, those willing to buy it will be able to venture forth bearing the appearance of a Marvel legend.
