The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe outfit coming to Marvel’s Avengers is Hawkeye’s Ronin attire, but fans are not thrilled about the addition. Crystal Dynamics’ multiplayer Marvel title includes a wide range of cosmetics for its cast of characters, including MCU outfits, but many of them must be purchased with real-world money. May 2021 saw the addition of Hawkeye’s Endgame MCU skin to Marvel’s Avengers, but now a very similar outfit has made an appearance.

At launch, Marvel’s Avengers received praise for its roster of unique playable heroes and authentic single-player storyline. However, the title also found criticism due to its technical issues, lack of meaningful endgame content and aggressive microtransactions. While it is possible to earn some cosmetic items through gameplay, many Marvel’s Avengers outfits must be purchased from the Marketplace using real currency. This includes the title’s coveted Marvel Cinematic Universe suits, which transform Earth’s Mightiest Heroes into their iconic live-action incarnations. The decision to lock these highly-requested designs behind a paywall outraged fans, since as of November 2021 all Marvel’s Avengers skins would cost thousands if fans wanted to possesses every unique design. Since then, that number has only gone up.

Hawkeye’s Avengers: Endgame Ronin Outfit was recently revealed by Marvel’s Avengers on Twitter, but the game’s fanbase is not happy about the new suit. Hawkeye’s standard Endgame outfit, which is essentially the Ronin suit with no mask, hood or tunic, was added to the game back in May. Many players, like Twitter users Tony Bing and TrixRidiculous, feel that Crystal Dynamics should not charge full price for such a similar cosmetic. Fans who purchased the arguably inferior interpretation of the design back in May also feel cheated, with a Reddit post by Billyb311 quickly filling up with angry comments.

Marvel Cinematic Universe skins have quickly become the most noteworthy aspect of Marvel’s Avengers, with fans praising the accuracy of the in-game cosmetics compared to their big screen counterparts. However, some criticism has come about from the fact that some skins lack the heroes’ iconic hairdos. Marvel’s Avengers’ recent MCU Kate Bishop skin perfectly captures the master archer’s purple tactical gear, but her distinct ponytail is replaced by a bun. The same criticism has been aimed at several MCU Black Widow skins which do not reflect the super spy’s various hair styles. Even Hawkeye’s first Avengers: Endgame skin suffers from this problem, with the Avenger’s memorable mohawk replaced by a close shave.

MCU cosmetics may be Marvel’s Avengers’ last claim to fame, and Crystal Dynamics’ latest addition has still managed to attract controversy. While there are many differences between Hawkeye’s Endgame skin and the Ronin suit, the two looks are similar enough to warrant frustration from gamers. Many players purchased the first skin wishing for a true Ronin outfit, and now those same players must pay an additional $14 for the cosmetic they wanted back in May. Recently Marvel’s Avengers added Hawkeye’s MCU Civil War suit in a Shipment, earned through gameplay rather than bought with real money, and this certainly would have been a better way to release the Ronin suit too.
