There is quite a bit of content for players to explore in Marvel’s Avengers. The story mode itself will take players close to a dozen hours to complete, and itself offers enough fun and excitement to justify the price of admission. Once players make their way through all of that though there are also an assorted collection of multiplayer game modes for players to check out and collect loot from to boost their combat abilities.

For new players though deciphering all of the different missions and what they mean can probably be a little daunting. Those who are just now hopping into the game may be left wondering things like “What is a Hero Mission” or “What missions are single-player”. For those players out there that are confused, we are here to help. This guide explains the difference between all the different game modes in Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers: Game Mode Differences

The biggest thing to keep in mind while playing Marvel’s Avengers is that some game modes are strictly single-player while others can be completed with up to three other players. The problem is that all of these missions appear on the War Table despite the difference in content. Sorting through these missions can be fairly difficult, so here are the different mission types in the game so far:

Hero Missions- Hero missions are all a part of the campaign and are strictly single-player. If players try to hop right into the Avengers Initiative they will probably become very confused, so the best practice is to completely beat the campaign before attempting multiplayer. This will make sure that there are less single players missions to get in the way.

HARM Missions- HARM missions are single players missions that aren’t a part of the campaign. They are essentially extended tutorial missions for each character that takes place inside the HARM room on The Chimaera. Players can hop into these missions to learn a little more about each individual character’s abilities.

Warzone Missions- The category of Warzone Missions actually contains the majority of the multiplayer modes. Warzones are basically massive open areas that players can explore to complete each mission. An Iconic mission may take place in a Warzone, but players can complete other objectives like saving resistance members or collecting loot while working towards their main objective. There are five different types of Warzone Missions: Iconic, Faction, Vaults, Hives, and Villain Sectors. Each of these types of missions will task players with completing different objectives while playing.

Drop Zones- These are fast missions that only have one objective to complete. They are basically a very easy way to earn experience and gain resources as quickly as possible, rather than playing through one of the longer mission types.

Marvel’s Avengers can be played on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
