Marvel’s Eternals has split audiences and critics but plenty of people are enjoying the cosmic adventure through Earth’s history. For those hoping to continue that experience once the credits have rolled, there’s plenty of video games that might capture an aspect of the movie.

Whether it links to the space-based elements of the film or perhaps observes Earth’s history from a distance, these titles manage to replicate the same themes and motifs. Although some of these games are also inspired by Marvel Comics, many are at the height of their genre and demonstrate the same story beats in vastly different ways.

Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy (2021)

It’s an easy connection to make, after enjoying Marvel’s Eternals the company’s video game take on Guardians of the Galaxy is a natural next step. Created by Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix, the title has launched to great success thanks to its fun combat, excellent soundtrack, and brilliant characterizations.

Much like The Eternals, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy takes some of the comic book’s most vibrant characters and fully realizes them in a unique way. The cosmic visuals, dangerous intergalactic weapons, and costuming certainly feel as if they have been designed by the same cinematographer. It’s one of the must-play titles of the year with some of the hardest enemies in a Guardians of the Galaxy or Marvel game.

The Outer Worlds (2019)

There’s a whimsicality to The Outer Worlds from Obsidian Entertainment and Virtuos that is replicated in some of the characters in Eternals. The exploration of deep space and the human element within a cosmos of potential both thematically link to the movie.

The video game might have launched to mixed critical reactions but has since grown into something worth re-visiting. Visually the epic scope of Eternals can be seen in The Outer Worlds, but this video game also boasts a compelling narrative and plenty of side quests that juggle multiple threads that continue to intrigue and challenge audiences, combined with a great combat system.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)

Eternals takes the vast lore of the Marvel Universe and aims to put it on screen for a brand new audience. It is complex in its investigation of the Celestials and the creation of existence itself. In many ways, Jedi: Fallen Order takes the famous Star Wars brand and does something similar.

The EA and Respawn Entertainment title dives into Jedi mythology, tracing the Force back to its roots and allowing players to explore some of the planets and artifacts that are so crucial to bringing back the Jedi Order. The galactic parallels between the two are clear, but the Star Wars game also looks at the notion of a found-family, much like the supergroup from Olympia. In addition, Jedi: Fallen Order boasts some of the best characters seen in a modern AAA game, matching the Marvel movie’s impressive feat of featuring a cast of diverse and likable heroes.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018)

A huge plot thread within Eternals centers on the group’s lack of interference in human history, alongside their curse to watch society develop, and sometimes fall, over thousands of years. This fascination with civilization is something the Assassin’s Creed plays firmly into throughout each title in the series.

There’s plenty of brilliant non-console games within the Assassin’s Creed franchise, but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is perhaps the best amongst the main series. The Ubisoft game allows players to fight as a fictional Spartan warrior in the Peloponnesian War, juggling both real-world history and fictional intervention in a similar capacity to Eternals.

Stellaris (2016)

There’s something to be said about an opportunity to go where no one has gone before and tread new paths throughout the Marvel Universe. Eternals tries to portray other cosmic elements of this familiar Multiverse and Stellaris captures that same essence of exploration.

The strategic game from Paradox Development Studio and Tantalus Media focuses on both warfare and diplomacy in a compelling balance of tactics both on the battlefield and within the political realms. Eternals sees conflict in debate and physical combat in a similar way, with huge decisions being fought through these two diverse methods.

God Of War (2018)

The Eternals themselves, as well as the Celestials and Deviants, are god-like figures among mankind. There are plenty of games that look at the impact of deities and their influence on human mythology but God Of War from Santa Monica Studio perhaps does it best.

Much like Eternals gives these comic book characters a new spin in the MCU compared to the source material, this interpretation of Kratos and Greek and Norse mythology is incredibly creative and pays homage to the ancient stories previously told in such tales as The Iliad. What’s more, a small mention of Thor in Eternals certainly links well to Ragnarök’s upcoming debut of the character.

Rise Of The Tomb Raider (2015)

There’s an element of archeology involved in Eternals as the group both creates and collects important artifacts from across their time on Earth. As civilization develops their role in that evolution can’t be ignored, with early Mesopotamian objects appearing in the British Museum thanks to their involvement.

Rise Of The Tomb Raider is among the best of the series and carries with it many of the same notions of the importance of exploring Earth’s history through its artifacts. Crystal Dynamics, Feral Interactive, and Eidos-Montréal forged a title that is visually stunning but puts the focus back on the tombs themselves and their fictional links to ancient lore.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (2017)

Another Marvel video game that portrays the characters of the comics is LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Although the title does not boast any of the Eternals themselves, it certainly interacts with some of the concepts and locations that the film brings to the screen for the first time.

Whether it’s the Black Knight and Camelot, or perhaps the trolls that Pip originates from, this is especially a game to check out for those who are fans of the post-credit sequences. In addition to some surprising character inclusions, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 has also portrayed an excellent iteration of Knowhere and the Marvel cosmos.

For Honor (2016)

Dane Whitman has a very minor part to play in The Eternals but the Marvel character will be heading for much bigger things as the Black Knight. For those who want to capture the same Medieval vibe, For Honor might be the perfect title to do so.

Developed by Ubisoft, For Honor allows players to masquerade as mighty warriors from throughout history, whether they be brutal Vikings or shining knights. The online elements of the title bring the warfare to a new level, but visually the cinematography in the game alone is simply breathtaking thanks to its combination of different eras of history

Guardians Of The Galaxy: The Telltale Series (2017)

One final Marvel title which continues to portray the galactic side of the comic book universe is Telltale Games’ Guardians of the Galaxy. Unlike most superhero games, this title instead focuses on narrative choice as the player is tasked with navigating through dangerous situations almost exclusively through dialogue rather than physical action.

Often overlooked as are many of the other Telltale games, the usual combat is replaced with character development and a striking narrative that allows audiences to become one with the Guardians as they try to make their way through the galaxy. This found family perspective is something both the film and the game share.
