Marvel’s Hawkeye spinoff Echo is reportedly expanding its cast with the addition of Wind River star Graham Greene in an unknown role. Alaqua Cox first made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the former series as Maya Lopez, the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia and adopted niece of Wilson Fisk who is constantly pursuing Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Kate Bishop in the hopes of finding Ronin to get revenge for her father’s death. Lopez was last seen confronting Fisk, better known as the Kingpin, for his apparent involvement in the killing of her father.

Development on the Hawkeye spinoff Echo was first announced in early 2021 when Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen were tapped to write and executive produce the project for Disney+. Just shy of two weeks ahead of Hawkeye‘s premiere, Disney+ and Marvel would officially order the series with Marion Dayre taking over as head writer for the MCU series and a 2022 production date eyed. With development having gone largely quiet in the months since, Echo may have taken its next step forward with a major addition.

The Direct has brought word that Marvel’s Hawkeye spinoff Echo has reportedly cast Wind River star Graham Greene for the series. Details on the Oscar nominee’s role in the show are currently unknown, and Disney has not confirmed this casting to Screen Rant at the time of writing. Production is reportedly slated to begin on Echo by April.

Long before starring in Taylor Sheridan’s Wind River, Greene rose to stardom for his role in 1990’s Dances with Wolves adaptation as Kicking Bird, for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Greene’s popularity would continue over the subsequent 30 years, starring in a number of hits including Thunderheart, Maverick, Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Green Mile, Longmire and Scott Cooper’s Antlers. Greene recently returned to the small screen with a guest role in American Gods season 3 as Whiskey Jack, a manifestation of the Manitou who holds a deep hatred for Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday.

Should Greene’s casting in Echo prove to be true, it would prove to be an interesting bit of insight for what audiences can expect from the Hawkeye spinoff series. With the show reportedly set to explore the character’s origins and family ties, the Wind River star’s addition would perfectly fit her Indigenous heritage, an element already established with Cox’s casting as Echo and Doctor Sleep‘s Zahn McClarnon as her father, and would continue the MCU’s push for better diversity in Phase Four. While audiences await word on Greene’s potential casting in the series, they can catch up with Echo’s MCU debut in Hawkeye now streaming in its entirety on Disney+.
